The contact owns a 2006 Dodge Charger. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact found a recall related to the fuel tank. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and the fuel tank was replaced; however, the vehicle began to slow down to approximately 35 mph when reaching high speeds. Additionally, the rpms would continue to increase without the acceleration matching the RPM increase. The contact informed the manufacturer who opened a case on the contact's behalf and informed the contact that there was no recall relating to the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

After refilling my tank with gas, my car suddenly began to stall. Immediately after refilling, I started my car and within a few seconds it shut off. After many attempts of starting it and remaining stationary, my car finally remained on for more than 5 minutes and I assumed it was safe to begin driving. 5 minutes into driving on a city street the car began to jerk and stalled in the middle of the street, fortunately it didn't cause an accident. I was able to restart it and turn into the nearest shopping center where I contacted chrystler, who claimed they had no knowledge of this issue. I've seen a multitude of complaints with similar, if not the same, issues I continue to experience.

Our problem still has not been fixed. The car continues to "die in flight." I have uploaded a video to youtube. Https://youtu.be/ssawxdfdswa this occurred while attempting to merge onto the interstate. The rpms jump up and down. The oil light and the electronic throttle control light flash and ding. The check engine light came on. This is going to cause an accident and the dealership says there is nothing wrong with the car.

I have complained on this vehicle multiple times now. It continues to have a randomly stalling engine while driving. The dealership claims it is not the gas tank. It has finally started causing the check engine light to come on (yay! it might actually get fixed). Just kidding! the dealership states that the codes that show up are general PCM codes that mean nothing. From online research, it appears it may be an electrical issue with the PCM, ECM, or numerous other parts. Either way, most of us go without cars for weeks while mechanics cannot find the actual cause thus cannot fix a dangerous vehicle. Most of us don't want to drive vehicles that stall while going 40 mph.

problem #245

Nov 012013

Charger

  • 150,000 miles
I notice that numerous 2006 Dodge Chargers have had pre mature engine failure. Numerous of them have a "dropped valve". I have a 2006 Dodge Charger that has been extremely well maintained and had the same issue. I drove my vehicle which was running fine with no issues and parked it at the store. When I finished at the store, I returned to my vehicle, got in and I attempted to start it at which time the engine made a horrific noise as if it was going to fall apart or explode. I shut it down immediately. White smoke was coming from the tailpipe so I had it towed to a shop where I was told it needed a new engine. I had it towed back to my home. I called Dodge in 2013 and was told that they had not heard of such a problem and that I should take it to a shop. The vehicle sat (undrivable) for almost 2 years as I was told by a dealership that repairs could amount to almost $7000. I have finally taken it to a local shop and after compression testing and head removal, it was determined the same thing happened as in the reports I have read, which is a dropped valve in cylinder 6. I contacted Dodge once again with no answers or assistance. In review of the existing complaints, I notice that the 11th digit of the VIN is the same with most of the complaints that contain a VIN number. I believe this is a design flaw in the head that is causing this malfunction which is a serious safety issue when vehicles die and quit running for no apparent reason and without warning. Had I have driving down the road it could have been a serious safety hazard. How does this get investigated, and how many complaints have to be generated to have Dodge look into this manufacturer defect causing safety issues? I have pictures of the damage caused by the valve seat but I am having a difficult time uploading. I can E-mail them on request
