Quart of oil every 1200 miles but it was much worse. I sea-foamed the heck of engine and even soaked cylinders overnight. Changed pcv valve too, but one that I had looked good.

Was pretty surprise to have oil consumption after 75K after having zero up to that point. What was even more surprising was Chrysler's answer...one quart per 1K is normal! The dealer said it was due to today's engines running warmer and the use of lighter grade oil. That is just plain nuts!! So check your oil level often and be sure to have an extra quart on hand.

Grand Caravan SXT 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,000 miles

I purchased a 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan in May 2011. When I took it in to a service company for an oil change in August 2011, I was told that the vehicle was significantly low in oil. I then took the vehicle to the dealership to have this problem diagnosed. The dealership told me that a gasket was leaking and that they replaced the gaskets and I should not have any more oil consumption issued. However in November when I had another oil change completed the vehicle again lost a significant amount of oil. I took the vehicle back to the same dealership and was told that it was normal for the vehicle to lose a quart of oil per 1000 miles driven. I was not comfortable with this answer so I e-mail Dodge directly and below is their horrid response.

Dear Rachel: Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center. Chrysler relates that the use of oil depends on the durability of the vehicle and how the vehicle is being maintained and used. The estimated oil usage from Chrysler is estimated that for every 1000 miles, a quart of oil is used. We regret to hear of your dissatisfaction and your inconvenience in thismatter. Thanks again for your email.
