My vehicle dies for no apparent reason while I am driving. Fortunately, the vehicle restarts right away after I come to a stop. However, this is extremely terrifying especially with children in the car. I took my vehicle into the dealership and they said they could not find anything wrong with it. Now it has happened twice again this week. I guess I will be taking it back again but after reading other posts about this same issue I am not hopeful. We are supposed to go on vacation but I am scared it will happen while we are on the interstate. I am extremely mad I bought this because I thought this would be a safe family car but now I am scared have my kids in the car.

My wife and two young children were about to enter a traffic circle and the van shut off! My wife had to brake to a stop, put the Van in park, and then restart the engine! I am taking it to the dealership tomorrow. I am not at all impressed and scared for my family's safety!!

I am so glad to have found this site and see that I am not the only one experiencing this problem. My 2010 Grand Caravan, which has about 16,000 miles on it has shutdown completely while driving about a dozen times in the last month. Most recently, it shutdown three times on Interstate-81 in NY at a speed of 68mph. My two children were in the back seat. Prior to this weeks episode, it has turned off on local roads here at a speed of 30mph, and on 4 lane main roads at speeds between 45-55. I am right now frightened to drive the car, and refuse to do so if I am not on a road where I can pull off onto a side street or shoulder in an emergency.

My dealer claims they have to be able to duplicate the problem, but Im am concerned because this is not an issue that is an everyday occurrence, it happens sporadically and randomly. What am I supposed to do when the dealer tells me they didnt find anything?

We bought this van new last year, and the engine has shut down while driving 4 times. The latest was today as my wife pulled into traffic, nearly causing an accident with a motorcyclist. The first time we took it in to the service department, and nothing showed on the computer. They stated that nothing was found.

Dodge, if you read these posts, if anything happens to my family because of this "non-problem", I will see you in court. I will be dropping it off in the morning, so we'll see how much "nothing" they find tomorrow.

I just received my 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan a few weeks ago. I was driving home from Wal-mart and I had gone over a slight incline through a stop light and the vehicle started to shut down. All of the lights to everything had come on and the mileage, and speedometer dropped to zero. I pulled over and restarted the van with no problem. I took it to the dealership because it is under warranty. They did a diagnostics on it and nothing had come up in the computer, so I drove it home. 2nd occurrence was 4/28/2011 yesterday. My husband was driving and it shut down on him too! We almost got into an accident!! So I started doing a little research and found some info on http://safercar.gov about a recall. I really need some help. I called Chrysler and they said there isn't a recall yet. So if there are more issues that anyone is having please call Chrysler so they can recall our vans. Please!!!!!!

We bought this van on 10/10 and have had nothing but problems. The car died without lights or warning at 60 miles an hour in the fast lane. No power to brakes or steering made it extremely hard to control and get off the road. Car dealership told me nothing wrong with van. Each time something else does not work, like the struts and shock absorbers do not handle impacts of bumps at all. It sounds like van will fall apart. Soft tires after I paid for rotation. Think tires were switched for old used ones. Possible flood van that was sold cheap to dealership and then sold to me for book price. Very scared to drive this van. Dealership no help at all.

I bought this minivan to have a safe vehicle to transport my family in. This sporadic stalling issue has been ongoing for several months. I brought it to the dealership once already and they found nothing. I do not feel safe driving my family in this any longer. Has anyone taken any legal action against Chrysler? Has anyone else with this problem contacted an attorney about lemon law violation? I sure hope the rumored recall fixes this. I am tired of driving in a $22000 death trap

Our 2010 Dodge grand caravan's shuts off while driving. 1st occurrence Nov. '10, they replaced the PCM "program control module". 2ND occurrence Mar. '11, this time my wife lost control of the car and hit a snow bank. Now it's back at the dealer. I have a case mgr. assigned to me from Chrysler to oversee the solution. Their are no codes issued by the car's computer that the mechanics can follow according to the svc dept. This is a huge problem... we have not had the pleasure of driving on the highway during a engine shut down, yet. When I get this car back from psychoanalysis, it better not do this a 3rd time, otherwise I want my money back, or it's the LOCAL TV, BBB, ATTY GEN. & MY LAWYER! WHAT IS CHRYSLER WAITING FOR...A FAMILY FATALITY?

Vehicle shuts down while driving down the road without warning. It kind of chugs and then quits immediately. Very, very unsafe and could cause a fatal accident. When the car shuts down of course everything quits.......power brakes, power steering etc. Control of the vehicle is without question comprised. This is without a doubt something that Chrysler needs to correct and recall NOW before someone gets seriously hurt or dies.

Purchased this 2010 DGC on 12/15 and on 12/21 the engine stopped in the middle of a 6-lane intersection. Dodge makes no commitment to assist with loaner car until after diagnosis, but they claim will have to keep the van an unknown # of days just to diagnose. I bought this van to convert for a wheelchair lift and cannot risk engine problems while battling MS!

brought it to BENSON DEALERSHIP in GREER, SC where they said they would connect it to the computer to find the problem. Computer could not find it so they did not think it warranted any further solution for safety concerns. Anthony at dealership just sent us on our merry way for it to kill again while driving 45 mph. No problem if computer can't find, but what about us with a 2 month old brand new car. Luckily we were able to pull off out of traffic and not hurt ourselves or someone else. It would take 45 minutes before it would restart. So you could not quickly turn ignition and get out of the way.

Happened a 2nd time, brought it back in and they replaced one part. The computer again did not find anything wrong, so they took a guess this time on what to fix. They fixed one of the two guesses. When asked why they did not fix both they told us it would cost them money. When asked if it was still under manufactures warranty doesn't manufacture pay and they said GM would make the dealership pay if nothing was wrong with the part. The cost was more important to BENSON in Greer SC than the lives of the customer as well as others on the road.

It failed a third time, making it a LEMON. However, even after going through their ridiculous useless arbitration board which indeed said it was a LEMON, they told us to continue driving it until it happened again. We felt safer driving a 1998 Ford than driving a 2010 LEMON which was a piece of JUNK. Rick, who would not give us his last name the DM for BENSON when asked if he would drive the car told us he drives Chrysler products. But the real question is would he drive a vehicle that killed 3 times driving 45 mph and would not restart for almost an hour?? Anthony the service manager at least admitted he would NOT.

Bought a new 2010 Dodge grand caravan, the van has started to shut down unexpectatlly while driving. This is very concerning as it just randomly shuts off. This has happened while driving uphill in traffic and turning right into a lane. This problem needs to be addressed, nervous about driving our family around with this problem. Also, very disappointed to have bought a brand new product and having these ongoing, dangerous problems with no solution. It needs to be looked at now BEFORE there are accidents.

The date listed is the most recent time that the van has died. I was pulling out of the parking lot from picking my daughter up from school and just like that, it died! I was almost hit. I am supposed to go pick up the van today (5 days later) because they can't find anything wrong, they aren't getting computer errors and they can't duplicate the problem.

So, what now? I pick it up and it dies on the interstate with my 9 month old and 6 year old in the car...Does that mean they are responsible for the outcome? I think so!

this is the fourth time i have been driving around with my three young children and the van has died entirely. it is lucky that we have just been in town. i hold my breath the entire time we are on the highway at all (which isn't often, thankfully). i am terrified that we will be killed in an accident if this were to happen on the highway!! i am not sure what they intend to do about it, they say they are going to replace the key module... and that i am to tell them if it happens again. we will be on the highway for a long time going on vacation and i am not confident this will resolve the problem!

Grand Caravan 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,500 miles

The second time the engine died was approximately 3 weeks after the first time. This time I was slowing to go around a curve and begin merging onto an InterState highway and it was like someone reached into the vehicle and turned off the ignition! Once again I was lucky to have enough momentum to pull the steering wheel and get to the side of the road...rather than be hit by the traffic on the interstate that was going 75 MPH!

Once again the dealership couldn't duplicate the problem...so I picked up the car and prayed a lot!

Driving on the Interstate at 65 MPH, and the engine completely shuts down...VERY SCARY! I was lucky that I had enough momentum to pull the car to the side of the road and avoid being hit. If I had not been in the far right lane I wouldn't have been able to do that! The dealership kept the vehicle over night and couldn't duplicate the event, so I picked it up and hoped it wouldn't happen again....but it did 3 weeks later...see other complaints listed!

This vehicle is licensed by my company for my use, so I am trying to work with the company rep to get a new vehicle. This vehicle is an accident waiting to happen.
