The contact owns a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500. When refueling the vehicle, the fuel spilled out. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the technician diagnosed that the fuel filler tube needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 102,000.

Every time the vehicle is fueled, it overfills and spills fuel down the side of the truck and on the ground. Happens every time. This is a huge safety issue.

When trying to fuel my vehicle at gas pump, gas began spewing and gurgling from the tank. I could get no more than around a gallon in the tank without it spewing gas back out all over my truck and the ground. I tried pumping slower, pulling nozzle in and out of tank, and waiting a while. I had no luck. I subsequently tried again two more times a week apart and still can't get gasoline into my vehicle without it spewing out. Upon reviewing this problem online I found a term used for this problem. "spitback." I also found that many Chrysler vehicles have had this problem. Also, it would appear that if it's a certain issue, the entire tank may need to be replaced for a simple little valve which is inaccessible otherwise.

Driving in heavy traffic the engine stopped. I coasted to the roadside and restarted after sitting about 15 minutes. This has happened about 5 times since then. I took it to an auto mechanic who could find nothing after 1 hour of road testing and truck engine computer readouts.

When filling the gas tank, gas will spray out of the filler neck once tank becomes full using pump auto shut off or manually holding the pump handle.

The 'check engine' light came on. It read 'gascap." I took the truck to the local Dodge dealer, who smoke-tested the evap system and found a leak at the top of the fuel tank (toward the front) where two lines enter the evap system. Two nipples come out of a short cylindrical part of the tank itself. One of these is extremely thin, and it had sheered off, leaving its hose unattached. There is no way to repair this single part, as it is intrinsic to the fuel tank itself, thus necessitating the replacement of the entire fuel tank. I found a used one, and the owner of the used parts lot told me he had seen many such occurrences. According to the mechanic at the dealership, the unattached hose presents a very grave safety issue. He told me not to smoke near that part of the vehicle, and that if a spark came up into that area the vehicle could explode. The nipple, according to the owner of the used parts yard, is a weak link in that particular design.

When filling up my truck gas overflows everytime. I have to manually slow it down when approaching my estimated fill point. The gas pump does not shut off like it does on other vehicles. My dad has the same truck and it does it also.

When the vehicle is being refueled at a gas station, it will not automatically shut the gas pump off. It will spill gas all over the truck and pavement. It will do this every time, unless we carefully monitor and estimate how much gas it needs to be full and stop it before it reaches that point. This seems to be a common issue among this year model of trucks. We purchased this vehicle as used and the first time we filled up we had this issue. Dodge told us $87 to evaluate issue and an additional $500 to fix it - in the same phone call. They know the issue, they are having issues with it in other Ram but they refuse to do anything to resolve an ongoing issue.
