CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

IT HAS HAPPENED MORE THAN ONCE WITH NO PARTICULAR CAUSE. IT SEEMED TO GO AWAY BUT THEN RETURNED AND CAUSED THE BATTERY TO DIE WITH THE GREATEST OF INCONVENIENCE. THE CAR HAD TO BE JUMPED, WHICH SOUNDS EASY BUT WITH THE TRANSPORTING OF LITTLE KIDS AND TRAVELING AWAY FROM HOME ADDS AMAZING STRESS TO THE TRIP. NOW I AM AFRAID TO GO TOO FAR BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIPS SAID FOR $250-$500 WE CAN FIX IT BUT FOLLOWED THAT UP WITH "BUT IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN" WHICH IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I THINK THAT FORD NEEDS TO ADMIT A PROBLEM EXISTS AND, AT LEAST, RECALL THE VEHICLES AND FIX THEM.

Not sure what the issue is yet. Still trying to figure out the solution. Pulled the fuse for the interior lights so wife could drive to work. Door ajar sensor cleared up after vehicle warmed up.

Edge ES 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

My car thinks my door is ajar, so my lights stay on. When I back up at night I can't see anything....! Also, I work in a dangerous area, and my damn doors won't lock when I'm going slow, so in the ghetto I could be carjacked, killed at any moment. The damn switch to fix this is so expensive and my car is paid off so it makes me angry. I have less than 80,000 miles on the car yet it's probably better for me to unload it and trade it in. Definitely not getting another Ford. Too bad I have two Fords right now. You guys have made me mad with this, and other issues so I think I'm done with you.

I keep getting a message that my driver's door is ajar. I have had to get a new battery because of it. I keep shutting it over and over again, and sometimes it will shut without the message. Once the message was off, and when I stopped, the message came on again that my door was ajar.
