CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Damn light stays on until you go a certain speed, and to back up at night is dangerous and difficult. Also drains my battery!!! Had to disconnect all the lights and get a new battery because I'd go somewhere and my car wouldn't start. Now I can't see anything at night getting in my car, dangerous, hard to deal with.

Wife called home to inform me the interior dome lights came on while she was driving home and she could not get them to go off. I gave her some suggestions - none of which worked. When she got home I made sure all the doors and hatch were securely closed. Lights were still on. I made sure the interior dome light buttons were not on/engaged. Lights were still on. I opened and closed all the doors and hatch repeatedly to see if a relay was stuck, etc. Lights were still on. I tried the knob controlling the brightness of dash lights and ensured it was off for dome lights. Lights were still on. I finally resorted to looking up fuse in owner's manual to find fuse for dome lights and I pulled the fuse. Took to dealer next day. They could not replicate of diagnose the problem. They replaced the fuse. No other reports (supposedly) from FMC about this kind of problem.
