CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

I had the lift gate open loading groceries and it all of a sudden released and came down and striking my head and neck and I quickly pushed it back up and it just dropped down again before I could get myself clear striking me again, it got my neck and shoulder. I took it to dealership and was first was told it was a problem for the body shop, but they quickly determined it was an electrical problem. The lift gate is very heavy and I do have to see a doctor for the persistent pain in the neck and shoulder. The vehicle was stationary in the parking lot of the grocery store.there wasn't a vehicle accident but I did receive an injury to my neck and shoulder, extent to be determined. Consumer stated when driving vehicle starts to shake. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, PCM melted two igniton coils and new computer replaced.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a clattering noise emitting from the vehicle. The contact also noticed hot water coming from the vehicle. The contact lifted the hood and observed that the vehicle's water pump had burst, which caused water to leak into the engine. A certified mechanic diagnosed that the water pump failed and caused the engine to fail as well. The water pump, timing chain, tensioners, phasers, and several other unidentified parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact called white Ford Lincoln (located at 4120 front St, winnsboro, la 71295; 888-303-4692) and was informed that the water pump entered the engine, which caused failures to occur, and that they would have to contact the corporate office. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened case number: Cas13013218. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.

I bought this 08 Ford Edge sel AWD with 74000 miles. Ive had it less than a year and had the following problems. * stalling. * loud clunking in reverse and jumps into gear. * front driverside and passenger side window pillars are big blind spot. Very dangerous almost hit pedestrians. * vehicle rolls back on small inclines. Almost rolled into vehicle behind me. Very dangerous. * vehicle struggles in reverse up small inclines. * driverside headlight was out for a month cause car needed software update. Truck stalled again today this time I turned off and on wouldn't go in reverse instead drove forward almost hitting parked car... still have popping noise in front end clunking noise in reverse sometimes again.. im starting to get nervous cuz my daughter was in the car with me. - emailed to Ford service center rep. Oct. 1st. Ford mechanics say there is nothing wrong with vehicle yet it has stalled 4X and has problems in reverse. Car has been in the shop 6X for same issue. Im tired of bringing it back and forth.

The driver door ajar warning is illuminated on the dash and the doom lights wont turn off. I have found out this is a very common issue with Ford where the poorly designed door latch binds up. I had this same issue with my 2002 Explorer and now with my 2008 Edge. It becomes a huge safety issue at night since the dome lights will not turn off so it is hard to see outside and could potentially cause an accident. From what I can tell I have been lucky to get this far before this issue has surfaced since I have read that Ford cars 2 to 3 years old seem to have this very same issue.

Paint on body of car bubbles then peels leading to rust on the interior and exterior of hood. Ford alludes that this has been an issue with various models but states that they are limited in what they are able to offer unless a recall is issued.
