CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Brakes are grinding and still no abs light to let me know I need brakes. Bought car at 148000 and since then I got nothing but problems making payments on a money pit. I'll be making payments on a car that doesn't work. I keep it maintained like it says. Brake booster had warranty but since I didn't find out about the free repair after I bought it and after the 10yr. Warranty, I'll have to pay for it. Car dealer who I bought it from should have gotten it replaced.

I've been partially losing my brakes lately. I brought it to my independent garage and he said that there was a Service Bulletin on the problem and to call ford. I went to my local Ford Dealer and they said that yes they have problems with that part and Ford has agreed to cover the cost from 2010 on. My car is a 2008. So I guess I'm chopped liver. Meanwhile I literally lost my brakes a dozen times. I think this should have been a recall, but I guess not enough people lost their lives? Oh and I called Ford Motors and they said that there is nothing that they could do with my repair because the car is 2 years to old.

My 2008 Ford Edge developed the same problem with the power brake booster that was inherent in the 2010 to 2013 Ford Edges. However, the Ford Motor Company Bulletin 13N02, which originally may have included my 2008 Ford Edge was revised to only include model years after 2010. If this was a known problem for all Ford Edges manufactured since 2007, why is it not included in the 2010-2013 extended warranty program???

well it started out with just a miss when I would come to a red light, so I decided to call friendship ford and have them check it out ,,,,, I took my edge to them .they called me shortly after and told me that my brake booster had collapsed so I said go ahead and fix it well after they got done I got a call to come get my car that they were done and it was fixed ,so I go get my edge pay was 755.00 leave friendship ford in Bristol Tenn and head to pick up my granddaughter at school which was about 20 miles ,it ran great until I went to pull into the school then just all of the sudden it felt like something was keeping my car from going forward , then I could smell something like it was going to catch on fire and then the brakes locked down, well I called the ford company and left a message they called me back ,later that night they sent a roll back and took my edge back to friendship ford ,the next morning they called me and said my ABS hose had collapsed ,and they assured me they would take care of the problem ,and said that if I would ride down to the shop they would give me a car to drive ,so I went got the car they called me shortly after said if would be a few days before they got the part in ,well three days went by they finally called said they were done with my car .and they once again assured me the problem was took care off ,well once again I drive to Bristol returned the loaner car they stated my car was fixed and they were sorry for all my trouble so I thanked them once again and left and once again had to go pick my granddaughter up at school well we were headed home which is about 12 miles I made it about 11 miles and the brakes lock down again but this time it was twice as bad so once again I called the ford co the man over the service dept. Anthony ' said well do you think you can make it back to Bristol 'I told him I can try so I headed back my 3th trip back to Bristol had to pull over every few miles and let the brakes cool down, we made it to Bristol speedway when they locked down again we called Anthony he said well try to make it soon as you can once again he assured me he would take care of it. he said he would personaley stay with my truck and make sure it is done right before we left my boyfriend rode with Anthony to let him hear what the truck was doing ,once again I leave the ford co and Anthony calls and said the calipers was not releasing that they were going to replace them so we leave about a hour went by they call and said my engine has shut down so I hurry and drive back to Bristol go in and talk to Anthony he said it is out of his hands ,just like that they blow my engine because they didn't have a clue how to fix it .my truck had nothing wrong with the engine they said air from the brake booster was causing my miss now I have nothing to drive still owned 7000 on my truck please anybody have any avice I take care of my 2 small granddaugthers and now have no way around thanks to FRIENDSHIP FORD OF BRISTOL TENNESSEE

If my wife was driving when this problem started she would have had an accident. This is a system that should NEVER FAIL, it was a financial nightmare to get the money to have fixed, can I get reimbursed?

I thought my car had brake issues and went in to get replaced. Brake man said brake shoes are fine however my power brake booster needs to be changed and cost with part and labor is $1,000! I believe car is too young to have this type of issue and am surprised. As I am reading, it appears this is not uncommon for year and model type.

Brake man said as long as I have a strong leg, the car will stop! Hello?? Can't believe there hasn't been a recall...
