CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Just bought a used 2008 with 75k and a new battery. It seems the 2008 model is subject to the problem that is being investigated for the "door ajar" issue that is killing batteries. Vehicle sat for 1 day and then had a dead battery. Jump started it and while sitting in the car I noticed the door ajar light was on - checked all doors numerous times, can get it to go off and all dome lights wont go off. Doors will not stay locked either. Off to the dealer....yeh!

We have a 2008 MA Mondeo TDCI Hatchback (purchased in January 2009), one owner, never been in any accidents, 42,000 Kilometres and have a Ford extended warranty-with 12 months still remaining. This car has only been serviced by Ford Dealers on every occasion.

I just wanted to congratulate Ford on selling us such a lemon! It is the most unreliable car we have ever owned.

It has been back to the dealers with the same problem 6 times and still has the same problem. The battery keeps going flat and now the "!" light in the dash keeps flashing even when the car is locked and switched off.

It has left my wife and daughter stranded on all those occasions and Ford Australia and the local dealer in Adelaide have no idea whats wrong! Well, what's wrong is that the battery keeps going flat intermittently and the car is a LEMON!!!!

This car is going to cause me a marital problem and I just want to dump it but because my wife purchased it via my father in law (who was a retired ford employee) who has since passed she wants to keep it!

To make matters worse we are been offered peanuts on a trade-in, so no matter what the end result, ultimately it has been hell and will cost me dearly to get rid of it!

I think a legal avenue is my only remaining option! I will never buy another Ford again and will tell anyone I can of our shocking experience!

Car was always used daily. We went on vacation for a week and when we returned, the battery was dead. The garage could not find a drain on the battery so I replaced it. Now, after sitting for a week the problem is still there(dead) and the Ford garage can't find out what is wrong. We like the car, not the idea that we have to use it daily to keep the battary charged.

Ford Dealers are unwilling to go beyond a basic test to determine what is drawing down my battery. I've just put in the 4th battery.... the last one just lasted 26 days...yes, under warranty, but I've had to have it towed 3 times. This is lowering the value of my trade-in or resale of this vehicle because of the number of complaints. I'm really hacked and sharing this with all my friends and their friends!! I've owned SIXTEEN Fords in my lifetime and this time, Ford is just passing the problem around.
