CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

Got the popping front end fixed, then this starts. After reading that other cars have done this while moving I am frightened! My daughter is learning to drive now and I dont need this happening. This is supposed to be a new car! Not very reliable.

I opened the hood and fuse panel pressing all fuses more securely into their places and it started, made my trip and returned home. I shut it off then restarted it an hour later. Maybe that's the problem?

The only problem I have had with my 08 Edge is the electrical system shuts down and restarts itself for no reason. The first time it happened, I ended up having a burnt taillight and it was replaced and no problem until this month. The system did it again. Not sure what is going on, but I know it's not right! None of the dealerships can replicate the problem... Of course not, it doesnt happen all the time. BUT IT DOES HAPPEN!
