CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

It was discovered that there are toxic fumes and fuel leakage coming from the fuel tank area. Most prevalent when the fuel tank is full. Noticed while in transit or while stationary. Dangerous inhilation to passengers in or around the vehicle has caused headaches and labored breathing. This error was occurring in previous year models and opening the earlier recall for this problem is necessary for safety and customer satisfaction. Direct contact with Ford Motor Company has not perfected a solution to remedy this problem.

Whether vehicle is stationary or moving it leaks fuel from the gas tank or the seals, or the brackets. We are only able to fill it a half tank at a time. Even then, turning a corner too sharp will cause the smell and leakage of fuel. We called and there is no recall on my vehicle. I do not see how there is not. It randomly started happening one day. I have been dealing with it for a while now. Hoping that a recall would come up or some type of investigation.

I have a 2008 Ford Edge with a gas tank leak, the gas tank need to be replaced due to the inside being completely rusted and erosion. There is a recall 14V682000 - however my vehicle is not a part of this recall although it was originally purchased in Connecticut, it was built at the Oakville assembly plant. I was informed by Ford that it may be included at a later date. That is not helping me when my vehicle is out of service now and has to be fixed.

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. The vehicle was taken to coggin Ford jacksonville (9650 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, fl 32225 (904) 747-8996) for the NHTSA campaign number: 14V682000 (fuel system, gasoline). The fuel tank was repaired with a wax seal. One month later the contact noticed a large fuel leak from under the fuel tank. The contact called the dealer and got a return appointment. The dealer tried to charge the contact $1,600 for the fuel tank even after the initial recall repair was covered under a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty. The dealer referred the contact back to the manufacturer. The contact got a case from the manufacturer who stated knowledge about the recall warranty. The manager at customer relations at the manufacturer stated there was nothing they could do about the issue and hung up on the contact. The result was that the vehicle had been at the dealer for two weeks and was still unrepaired. The contact just spoke to the dealer today and was told that there was no replacement fuel tank for the repairs and to come tow his vehicle away and fix it himself with a used part.

Fuel is leaking, 1 believe from the fuel tank. The vehicle was in park, but left on for about 30 minutes. When I returned and reversed out the parking spot I noticed a puddle at the back end of the parking spot. I smelled the puddle and it was fuel.

I always maintained my "pre-owned" vehicle, purchased from dealership with 25,000 miles. Began to experience a plethora of problems after 2,000 miles. I've paid over $8,000 in repairs and only drove it 35,000 in 8 years time, but maintained it properly & regularly: I've had to change the brakes & pads, & battery twice, it's wheel rims constantly leak air in the winter causing flat tires, changed all 4 tires, and on August 2, 20017, while driving on the highway at 60 mph, my steering control suddenly locked up! there was no control over the vehicle's movements- no ability to make lane adjustments or turns! I and my entire family including grandchildren could have been killed!! luckily, the next off-ramp was a straight shot & I was able to exit the hwy safely and bring the vehicle to stop despite no steering control. I had my vehicle towed to a Ford dealership which incorrectly diagnosed the problem, & did not bother to inspect it for three days. It now needs a costly ($1500) rack and pinion to replace it's rusted out pressurized fuel line for power steering fluid. It remains unrepaired to date since there is also a takata airbag recall w/ possible fatal injury on this VIN. The repairs have been delayed because this vehicle is an unsafe danger to drive! the fuel line defect was undetectable even though I had regular maintenance care and checkups.

Rec'd initial safety recall (14S22) letter Dec. 2014 & 2nd notice April 2016 for the vehicle to be serviced by my authorized dealer, ramsey Ford. May 16th ramsey's ppwork indicates the a sealant was applied. My vehicle failed inspection this April because the gas tank was corroded and leaking gas! I called Ford & spoke to their cust. Ser. Rep, who refused to accept that this tank was not repaired properly & that they should replace it at no cost. They refused to accept the responsibility. I have photos of the tank, but they are too large to include with this form!

The contact owns a 2008 Ford Edge. After the fuel tank was replaced per NHTSA campaign number: 14V682000 (fuel system, gasoline), the fuel gauge did not register the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the sending unit was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer approximately six times for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The failure mileage was approximately 178,000.

On December 12, 2014 Ford mailed a safety recall notice to my attention regarding NHTSA recall 14V-682 regarding corrosion of fuel tank mounting brackets. I was told that this letter was for information only and that I would be contacted when parts were ready for the repair. We are approaching 10 months since the letter was mailed and I am still waiting for Ford to contact me regarding the availability of the needed repair parts. As I live in the northeast and salt is used extensively on the roads during the winter I do not want to go through another winter with this issue be unresolved.
