CarComplaints.com Notes: Say what you will about the styling of the Ford Edge, but the bottom line is owners seem to love this vehicle. That is, of course, except in the case of it's dangerous, worrisome and unexplained issues with random engine stalling.

Our data suggests an early defect trend, as owners of the 2007-2008 models have started posting their accounts of what happens when you're driving down the road and the engine just stops. Some at high speed, some at low speed but always a random shutdown of the engine, electrical and power steering.

Time will tell if this becomes a widespread issue, but there's no drying the seriousness of the problem. With that in mind, we're flagging the Edge with our "Beware of the Clunker" rating until the situation improves.

transmission slipped, wrench light on transmission slipped, wrench light on

Well my car... I can't get it to pass emission because the IM readiness fails due to the fact that I can't drive it long enough for it to pass. I can't drive it because I have no tag. And in addition to that every time I drive it, it makes a grinding noise that comes from the transmission valve area and loss of power. If I drive it more than 30 miles an hour, the noise worsens and becomes unbearable. I feel like if I keep driving the transmission is gonna break somehow. The grinding noise also affects the driver side tire arm

As I was coming home from grocery shopping, I'm going down the road at 55 mph when the transmission seemed to slip pretty hard. My wrench light came on. As I reached town and had come to a stop the car did not have any power to move, as I'm on the phone with the tow driver something told me to shut the car off and start it, sure enough the wrench light was not on, car seems fine now, anyone else have this problem?
