We have maintained this vehicle from its start. It has been developing a burn out on both rear turn signals in the last two years. The bulbs seem to require replacement more than once every six months. The bulbs seem to be overheating and actually melting the plastic between the bulb glass and the insert itself. Viewing this online it seems to be a problem that goes back for years and yet Ford maintains it is not their problem. I feel it's dangerous and could cause a fire if this continues and seems to affect a majority of customers.
It started stalling, and losing power while driving. When the ac is turned on it started driving rough at low speeds but when the ac is off it runs rough at high speeds. The throttle body seems to beessed up it now runs rough and idles rough. It's almost like it doesn't have the correct fuel to air ratio.
Have replaced brake light sockets due to melting sockets and bulbs melting. I've had to change them out three times now within two years. Started in October of 2018 and once since then and again just now August 2020

The contact owns a 2009 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the front passenger door sensor erroneously indicated that the door was open, which caused the interior lighting and exterior mirror lights to remain illuminated while driving. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000.
The passenger door ajar lightstays on and won't go off and the doors will not lock. This happens when I start my car, drive my car and will only go off when I turn off the engine. In my opinion this constitutes a major safety hazard what with the doors not locking.
During normal highway operation the right rear taillight failed. Inspection of the failed component found the taillight socket had melted. There was no prior indication of circuit breakdown, ie: Fuse blown, etc. All parts were factory installed as none had been previously replaced from new.
Continue right rear tail light burnout. Plastic on blubs melted. Discoloration on socket. I now have about 100,000 mi on the car and have replaced 5 bulbs. I wrote a letter to Ford and they rejected my complaint. This is a fire hazard. Industrial plastic melts at about 300 of. This is a design defect which Ford is ignoring! I can provide photos of burned out bulbs and damaged socket. Left rear turn bulb svl 12V 3157.
Both tail lights have burned holes through their outer casings. Therefore, when I brake there is no diffusion of the bulb, just the bright light of the bulb shining. Mechanics at my local Ford dealership admitted the problem is caused by faulty wiring, which makes the bulbs burn too hot, resulting in the melting of certain areas of the protective casings. But after informing Ford Motor Company of the issue, including sending pictures of the damage, I'm still being asked to pay for almost half of the repair; this when I didn't cause the problem and I'm still covered under the extended warranty package of up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. I've reviewed other complaints, and I'm not the first person to deal with this exact issue. Some have had Ford cover the costs, as they should, as it is their equipment that is faulty. But others are in the same boat as me, waiting for the company to take responsibility for their product. As the consumer and a non-car expert, I have no grasp on the range of potential damage or hazard this problem poses. I don't know if burned bulbs and melted casings are the extent of the problem, or if I'm driving around with the chance of a fire looming. I just know I'm dealing with bad wiring, and nothing good comes of that.
Brake light bulbs burning out resulting in a loss of turn signals and brake lights. The connector is discolored due to high heat (current). Company is covering under warranty but has not issued a technical bulletin.
2009 Ford Edge -- major issue-- Ford needs to cover costs--- I was driving my 2009 Ford Edge sel approx. 4 miles. Once I rolled to a stop at a traffic light the car began to idle and then stalled. No warning lights.. I started the engine and pressed the gas (no acceleration). The engine ran at around 1-2K RPM. I pressed the gas again, no acceleration. I shut off the car called aaa for a tow. I started the car once more to check the gauges, no service lights. When I checked the other indicators it stated, car temp -- ok, oil pressure - ok, etc... all ok.. no warning lights, no issues. The car was in about 1.5 months ago for oil, 3-4 months for service. About 8-9 months ago, moroone Ford of margate (under warranty) fixed an electrical issue (where no lights were showing) they claimed it was a Ford issue and they replaced it (no cost). Well now this happened and moroone Ford of margate said, "blown engine, $7,700 to replace + $400 for cooling fan." They said the cooling fan broke (no warning) and the engine blew. No warning, lights, etc... when I looked under the hood waiting for aaa (no smoke, no smell... yet a blown engine (full replacement)... I will fight this because I believe this is an electrical issue that they tried to fix prior and this happened again. I also don't believe the engine was destroyed. Hopefully the government and Ford will research and cover the repairs / replacement. No warning lights oil temp -- ok oil pressure -- ok car idled and stalled... approx. Miles 82,000.
Safety- on April 30,2009 I purchased a new 2009 Ford Edge. On memorial day, 2009, 1 month after it was purchased and with approx. 1200 miles on it in heavy traffic on the nys thruway it made a loud clunking sound, jerked and within 5 seconds just shut off. Vehicle would not move, it had to be towed. Was taken in for service, they found nothing. On October 31, 2009, again, I was on the nys thruway, it did the same identical thing, made a loud clunking noise, jerked and within 5 seconds just shut off. Both times I was barely able to make it to the Edge of the road. I called for a tow truck, but in the meantime this time it started after about 15 minutes. The check engine light was on until the next morning and then it went off. Again, I took it in for service, again, they found nothing. They said there was no codes showing up for anything wrong. This is a severe safety issue. Someone could get killed when this happens and I have very small grandchildren that could be with me. I am not comfortable driving this vehicle. I contacted Ford direct and a specialist from Ford contacted me today by the name of denise. She said Ford wouldn't replace any parts without a code coming up in their computer. I asked her if they were going to just wait until someone was killed and she said that Ford will not approve any parts being replaced since they don't know what the problem is. Ford has now put approximately 500 miles themselves on the vehicle test driving it, and I still have no solution. This is not right. This is extemely dangerous and something needs to be done to rectify this situation. Any help that you can offer would be very much appreciated.
