CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

My wife was going home and traveling approximately 45 mph. The collision avoidence lights started flashing and the brakes locked up. There were no vehicles in front of me, but she was almost rear ended from the traffic behind. The vehicle never came to a complete stop. We have had the system go off before but not to this extent. The dealer has had no complaints and cannot do anything unless the vehicle acts up.

<> when closing the driver's door, I get a "door ajar" message, even though the door is fully shut. I can get the message to go off if I slam the door repeatedly, but sometimes it takes two or three slams to get it to go off. This can be a serious safety issue when I'm not able to get the message to go off. If it occurs at night, I have to drive with the interior lights in the car on. I'm also concerned about the driver's air bags being able to deploy in an accident, if the sensor thinks the door is open. This problem really warrants a recall to address this issue.

The rear driver's side door has a bad sensor. It does not recognize the door as being closed unless the door is opened/closed numerous times, sometimes it will not ever recognize the closure.

The door ajar switch does not work. What this has done to the vehicle is the interior lights stay on in the car well after it has been turned off. The vehicle also will not turn the interior light off when running unless you are in drive and move forward. The danger is in reversing at night. The lights do not go out whatsoever in reverse and makes it very difficult to see at night when in reverse. We have almost hit a person, a car and a few poles with this lighting staying on. Not only does it pose a threat for a crash or hitting other vehicles it also kills the battery in the vehicle. This should not be an issue in a vehicle this new. Please do something about this the lighting that stays on will get someone hurt because the driver cannot see where they are reversing to inthe dark.

The door ajar light on the dash, while the door is closed, for the drivers side rear door will not shut off. The automatic locks will not engage and the dome lights and various parking lights on the vehicle turn off and on at all hours of the day and night while car is parked taxing the battery. I ended up having to buy a new battery over time.

Door ajar sensor appeared, took vehicle back to dealer, replaced door latch and door ajar icon disappeared. Automatic door latches are working properly; however, one week later, as I was driving a wrench icon appeared and my car lost power. Imagine the danger involved in driving and loosing power. Called the dealer, left the car again for another repair session. It is my understanding that the door ajar sensor has been very problematic for the Ford Edge model and there has not been a recall. Add my complaint to the list of many and hopefully something will be done for the consumer. I am disappointed because the vehicle still smells new and only has 40,200 miles on it but is already having problems. Acronym for Ford=fix or repair daily, and I sure hope not! Ford has another acronym, but I will not post it at this time. Trying to remain patient, but diligent.

The alarm comes on for no reason. The front driver panel says the rear left door is open, even after closing it repeatedly, the panel still says the rear left door is open.

The drivers side front door sensor does not work. The door is closed but it still shows on the dash door ajar. This does not let the doors lock while driving. I feel that this is very unsafe while driving also unsafe for my family to drive in certain areas of the city. I don't even know if the airbags will work.
