CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar” warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

The drivers door door ajar light stays was staying on at all times with the door shut. Had to replace the door latch assembly to make the issue go away. Potentially a serious safety issue if the door latch is malfunctioning.

The 'door ajar' warning light on my 2011 Edge periodically comes on and stays on. The warning indicates that various doors are open. Sometimes it's the driver door; other times it's the left passenger door or the back gate. Each time the doors were closed properly, however the sensor thinks that the doors are open. This malfunction causes the interior dome lights and the exterior lights on the side mirrors to remain on, which drains the battery. Originally, I thought this issue was a problem specific to my vehicle. However, in an attempt to understand the problem, I conducted an internet search and discovered that the 'door ajar' warning is a common and well known problem with Ford products including the Edge. This problem is not a result of use or wear and tear of the vehicle; it clearly is a mechanical /engineering flaw with the vehicle. I feel that this situation is a safety issues and should be corrected by Ford Motor Company. On September 19, 2016, I sent an email to the Ford Motor Company customer relationship center (crc), explaining the problem and seeking help. I was assigned a case number (cas-10612005-P1F4G7) and was told to contact a local dealer to diagnosis the problem. On September 27, 2016, a service department representative from beau townsend Ford informed me that the problem was with the door latch and the cost to repair is approximately $385 per latch. He also informed me that Ford Motor Company would not pay for the repair.next, I called the crc to appeal the decision.I was told that the problem was not a recall item and that Ford would not repair the vehicle. I was also told that I had no further recourse regarding this issue.

Door ajar light remains on-vehicle will not lock while in motion-interior lights will not turn off while parked-electrical components drain battery as if the door remains open at all times even when the door is closed-needs to be recalled and fixed for Ford owners as this is not the only Ford vehicle with this problem-Ford needs to stand behind their product and step

My drivers door will not latch. Due to this my dome light remains on which causes it to be dangerous to drive my car at night. It also drains my battery on a regular basis. My local dealer did something after I purchased the vehicle to "fix it", however it has continued to happen since I purchased the vehicle from a Ford dealer almost to years ago.

When closing the door the door latch doesn't latch properly and the warning light the door is ajar light stays on keeping dome lights lit. Door can be opened and closed 5,6 times and still the same problem. Sometimes the door doesn't even latch, non of the doors lock, and at night its dangerous to drive with dome lights lit. I paid for the repair once shortly after the warranty expired and was told by the dealer when the problem started again there was nothing that they could do and I would need to pay to have it fixed. I so mad I'm ready to trade the car in on a Toyota. To make the issue worse is every car you've made since I bought this has had door latch recalls. My boyfriend just got a recall (15S16) for his 2013 Fusion and he has never had an issue with his doors. I'm just waiting for the door to come open again while I'm driving. [xxx] date entered is the last time it happened. It does this on a daily basis. Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

At about 75,000 miles my door adjar light for my driver door would not turn off. It turns out the sensor of the door latch assembly is bad. This causes safety hazards because my interior lights will not turn off when the door is shut and it will not allow me to lock the doors from the interior when the car is in motion. I've spoken with Ford representatives and this is a known, common problem but they haven't done anything about the issue. I think a recall of the faulty product that causes safety hazards would be appropriate.

Had problems with door side sensor saying the door was open when it wasn't. now the passenger side door is doing the same thing. The doors will not lock while driving if the door sensor is saying the door is open. This is a safety hazard. Also, if the door open sensor is saying the door is open once you have gotten out of your vehicle and shut the door, the interior light will stay on and this drains your battery.

Door ajar light started coming on for driver's side rear door. You could get out and slam the door and it would go out. This has been steadly getting worse. Now anytime you get in the car, you do not have to open the rear door and the door ajar light comes on and the inside dome lights come on. I can say "ok" to the notice and the message will disappear but the small car indicator will stay on on the dash. The real problem is the inside dome lights will not go out until the car picks up some speed. This is a real problem at night especially if you are trying to back out of a parking space and the lights are on inside the car. I am not sure of the exact date that this started, but it has been going on for several months. I just picked a date below.
