CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar†warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

The door ajar warning appears continuously on the dashboard even when the door has been closed. This prevents the doors from being locked and causes the dome lights to be on while driving causing vision issues at night. The light also stays on when the car is off which results in draining the battery.
-door ajar signal stays on when door is closed tightly. Never do I close the door and the door ajar signal goes away. It is always on. -as such, the interior light stays on the in car making it very unsafe and hard to see at night. -I have the inability to lock the doors while in the vehicle another very unsafe issue when in certain areas or at night. -the latch is faulty and I have seen hundreds of others online who have had this same problem with Ford Edges. Ford needs to have a recall on these faulty latches!
The driver door ajar switch remains on when door is clearly closed. Interior lights remain on and drains battery life. Very disappointed that this issue has not been taken care of by an american company.
"passenger door ajar" warning light comes on intermittently along with interior dome light. Opening/closing door usually doesn't fix. Warning can come on even if door wasn't opened. Can occur when parked (first starting car) or driving. Can temporarily override issue by pressing ok button, but can/will happen again. Very annoying and is a hazard when driving (kinda startling/distracting) especially if it occurs at night (dome light impairs vision).

Coming out of an underground parking garage and the vehicle suddenly stopped and I received an orange wrench error message stating AWD off. The vehicle would not engage in a drivable gear. I had to drift to a spot where I could be out of the line of traffic, at which time I stopped the vehicle/brakedp; shifted into park, and turned off the ignition. Upon re-starting the vehicle, it appeared to resolve. Upon doing research, I recently took the vehicle to the Ford service dept and they reset the transmission computer as I had been experiencing slips or rough starts when driving/accelerating over the last 2-3 months. The incident described above occurred approximately 2.5 weeks after that service visit.

The door ajar sensor on the driver side works sometimes and doesn't work sometimes. I have to open and shut the door several times until it works. If I cannot get it work then it absolutely kills my battery. This is apparently happening alot on these vehicles.
Door ajar sensor is activated even though the door is not ajar. I have to slam the door several times to get it to work. This is a safety hazard and very annoying. The doors will not lock if it is ajar.
Driver door shows ajar but is not this is an intermittent problem and causes spontspontaneous doors to unlock. And the electronics in the car to turn on without keus present. Drains battery frquently.
The drivers side door is definitely closed. Car does not think so. Dash warning light is on. Dome lights on. When using the clicker to lock the doors the horn beeps a couple of times. Weird stuff. I do not know if this is going to cause safety problems or not. This Edge also has back brake problems. The back rotors and brakes have been changed twice already due to corrosion. Bad design. They get really hot and must be slightly in the braking position then until changed. Winter in Minnesota - salt and Ford's better idea. One more thing: When we change the temperature settings the computer things we want air conditioning. This causes the windows to completely fog over under certain conditions. I have had numerous talks with Ford motors about this safety problem. They do not get it and basically blow us off because of cost or lack of understanding. There are complaints filed.
Intermittent "door ajar" warning indicator on driver's operation panel. Opening and closing, sometimes will clear the warning indicator. If warning indicator is not extinguished by opening and closing door, doors will not automatically lock (I. E. doors remain unlocked). Ford dealer has used a lubricant (spray lubricant) into defective driver's side door lock. Alarm is less frequent but still a problem.
The drivers door the door ajar light, the switch is sticking causing the door ajar light and interior lights to stay on also the door locks will not engage.saftey issue. Have had to repair or replace this switch twice since 2012 at a cost of ore than $500 dollars. Dealer says they know about the problem but since no recall all they can do is repair or replace over and over again. I know this is a model problem just check.
Door ajar indicator light for rear, left passenger door remains lit after door has been slammed shut numerous times. Same issue as other complaints for front driver door.
Drivers side door ajar light stays on. Doors will not lock and interior lights stay on. Not safe driving with doors unlocked in the event of an accident. Interior lights staying on at night make it impossible to see!
Had a door ajar fault(driver door). Opened and closed door several times, would not go out. You can not lock the doors when this happens. This fault occurs each time we drive the vehicle.
The driver door latch has a switch to indicate if the door is open or closed. This switch is failing and indicating that the door is ajar regardless of the actual status. This prevents the ability to lock the car doors while driving the vehicle, and obscures albeit does not prevent the ability to recognize other open doors. Dealer indicates that this is a common issue.
The drivers side door adjar sensor is malfunctioning even when the door is fully closed. When this malfunction occurs, the interior overhead light remains lit for 5-10 minutes and it cannot be disabled. This is especially problematic during night driving, because it makes it extremely difficult to see the road and surrounding environment while the light is on. The first time the problem occurred, Ford cleaned the contacts and it fixed the error for 6 months and the repair was $148.50 when it appeared again, Ford solution was to replace the entire assembly and the cost of this 2nd repair was $340. Not only have these been expensive repairs, it must be completed because it creates a dangerous driving experience and there is no way to deactivate the sensor. This is a flaw in the design and should be recalled.
The door ajar light started coming on and is now on constantly. Since the door ajar light won't go off my console light stays on as well. I have found nothing to fix this issue except for completely replacing it. It's not a cheap fix.
