CarComplaints.com Notes: A frustrating electrical issue is causing an ever-present “door ajar†warning light for 2011-2013 Ford Edge owners. Even with the doors latched shut, faulty sensors convince the vehicle’s computer they aren’t. With no way to override the system, owners have no choice but to stare at the warning light, listen to the warning chimes when the car is stopped, and deal with interior lights that won’t shut off.

This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.

Multiple incidents after repair of door ajar switch/sensor will not recognize that the door is actually closed even though the dome lights stay lit and the car gives a warning.
Door ajar light stays on regardless of how many times I close the door. The door is closed but the sensor stays on and the light inside the car will not turn off (due to the car thinking the door is open)--not sure if the door does not close all the way. Seems unsafe to drive with the car this way since I don't know if it is securely closed.
Door ajar and interior lights remain on even when door is closed. Interior lights stay on while driving causing it difficult to see also runs the battery down. Continuing lights make it a hazard for the driver and other drivers
The driver side door latch not working properly indicates the door is opened when it is closed. There for the dome light stays on till the car reaches 20 miles per hour or about a city block witch makes it hard to drive and cover the dome light at night so U can see out the windshield so not to be blinded by the light.
The dome light stays on, night time driving hazard. False door ajar prevents doors from locking while traveling on highway. Doors won't lock major safety issue.

The door ajar sensor will not allow the door to be locked while in motion. Additionally, it will force the interior light to remain illuminated after removing the key which then drains the battery requiring constant roadside assistance.
The driver door latch sensor (driver door ajar) will not go out after closing the door. The interior lights stay on and the doors will not lock because of it.
Door ajar warning. Doors do not lock automatically nor will they lock with lock control on door or when in motion. Only possible way to lock doors is the remote on the key when car is stopped.
Just after the manufacturers warranty expired at 36,000 miles the "driver door ajar" notification came on and will not go out. This is an extremely common problem and well known to Ford. Safety concerns are that the lighting will not go out and driving at night is severely hampered and the doors cannot be locked while the vehicle is in motion. The no-lock issue is a major problem while having children in the car...ie, granddaughter.
Our Ford Edge gives us the door ajar notification upon putting the car in drive and at random times when driving. The doors are all closed when this happens. The overhead lights come on and will not turn off as long as the door ajar warning is on. Sometimes, the problem can be corrected by slamming the driver door a few times. Other times their seems to be no remedy. Other than being extremely annoying, we believe this to be a serious safety issue. The overhead lights make it difficult to see out of our vehicle at night, and if there ever really was a door ajar, we wouldn't know.
Door ajar warning light comes on every time we get into the vehicle and never goes off no matter how many times we close the door. Doors do not lock as car begins to move. Dome lights stay on for extended period when we start driving and after we have parked the car at end of trip. Back up camera doesn't function some of the time, and it never functions completely as it should. Car horn goes off at random times while car is parked with no one near it. It is a random sounding honking, not the consistent honk it makes when the panic button is pushed. Radio sometimes will not turn on, and sometimes when radio is on while driving, it won't turn off, even after car is turned off, key is taken out, we get out of car and lock it. Syncing system doesn't work right. Phone calls disconnect randomly. Battery warning light comes on sometimes when we turn car on; and dash display is delayed or doesn't come on. We have not had the car stall or start a fire as yet, but are afraid that may come next, as we have ready the many complaints about the 2011 Ford Edge problems and have found so many people have documented these exact complaints we have listed, and others have had the very dangerous stalling or burning problem. How we hope these problems will be investigated and Ford will be forced to fix these dangerous problems before someone is injured or killed because of them. How can Ford not have addressed it yet?!
Door ajar lights come on when door is properly closed causing a draw on the battery. Needs new door latch assembly from Ford, not covered under warranty should be a recall.
I get a door ajar warning when the door is actually closed; the lights won't go off, nor the doors lock. I feel very unsafe with the doors not being able to lock. Plus it doesn't help the battery life much either.
Driver side door ajar light stays on even when the door is completely shut. Interior lights stay on while the door ajar light is on. Have already had to replace the battery on 2011 Ford Edge.
While driven I had a message on my dash board that my driver side door was open. All the interior lights comes on. I checked and all doors were closed and secure. This malfuntion still up today and happen almost everyday during day an night time. During night is a safety issue becsuse you can not see clearly outside.
After closing door, the dome lights and door ajar indicator on instrument cluster would illuminate. I would have to slam the door several times to get the dome light and door ajar light indicator light to extinguish. The problem is worse in colder weather.
