I live in Idaho. My daughter and I went to Vancouver Washington to visit my other daughter. The day before we were scheduled to drive back to Idaho the Edge started making a rattling noise. My daughter’s neighbor has a friend that works at a repair shop. He described where the noise was coming from and had him hear it over the phone. Since the drive back to Idaho is close to 400 miles, he advised us not to drive it. His shop wouldn’t be able to take a look at it for a week and a half. The Ford dealership in the area was booked out at least 2 weeks. We really needed to get back to Idaho because there had been a death in the family. We made the decision to leave the Edge at my daughters and take her car instead. It was definitely an inconvenience.

On April 8, 2021, my son and daughter took it to the auto repair. After much checking, the problem was found to be the flex plate. It needed to be replaced as it had cracked. The repair was done and the Edge was picked up on 4-13-21. We now need to figure out the logistics of switching the vehicles back. My husband has back and knee issues so not having the Edge has been difficult. My daughter’s vehicle is a sedan and it is very hard for him to get in and out of it.

After seeing that the flex plate is a common problem, it is even more frustrating. I do not understand why there wasn’t a recall. I have also read that the flex plate can fail more than once. That is very concerning. I will not feel confident driving this vehicle any more. Ford should have taken care of this issue.
