rear control arm failure

Was driving home after working a double shift. I had the cruise set at 50 MPH and everything was normal. It was -7 degrees farenheit outside and we just had a ice storm. The road conditions turned terrible very quickly so I reduced my speed to about 30 MPH. Suddenly there was a violent jolt and bang, my Escape instantly became uncontrollable as it shot across the opposite side of the road. The ABS, and Traction Control light instantly came on as well as the TPMS. Thank God there was nobody coming towards me. After much effort I got back into my lane and the car lost all power the ESP light started flashing and there was a grinding noise. I limped it into a parking lot and got out to inspect the damage. My brand new Michelin tire was destroyed so I figured I just had a blowout.

I called roadside assistance and they arrived very quickly in a minivan to put on the spare. Upon inspection the gentleman told me that the car sustained major damage and needed to be towed to a collision center. The vehicle was towed to the collision center where I was informed that the control arm on the right rear had busted. The suspension was resting on the rim, I was informed to immediately contact my insurance company. I just switched insurance ONE DAY before this incident occurred. The vehicle is now sitting at the collision center awaiting the insurance company to deem if it's worth fixing. I will never trust this car ever again. It just passed PA inspection one week prior with flying colors.

This is my first and last Ford I will ever own. I had a Chrysler Pacifica with 250000 miles on it before this and it NEVER let me down. I thought it was getting too old to be reliable so I got rid of it, worst mistake of my life. I believe that if I hadn't reduced my speed I wouldn't be here today. I'm now having to rely on my old Buick LeSabre since Ford can't build a car that works.

I took my truck in for a simple oil change. Simple right?? NOT!!! I came to find out that both my front lower control arms and a stabilizer link need to be replaced. I was like, There's no rust the parts look new! The mechanic had informed me that it was the rubber bushings. I was like, Oh that's not too bad, How much?? He went to price it and came back and said, Um yah The rubber bushings cant be replaced on this year of vehicle.. You have to replace both lower control arms!! I was pissed!! WTF!!! so how much?? he said, $250 a control arm $40 for the link and about $300 on labour. Great if your made of money, sucks if your just trying to get by!! Thanks to Ford for ripping me a new one!!!

Escape LX 2.4L

The left rear control arm broke in two at about 30-35 mph causing the vehical to roll onto the drivers side resulting in a total loss. Have contacted Ford via phone and e-mail with no response. even went to the dealership and they recommended that I contact Ford. The police were on the seen during the event (as it is an active construction site)(please note that the event occured prior to the construction area) The officer couldn't believe what he has seen and asked me what happened. Go figure. Still waiting on a reply from Ford.
