CarComplaints.com Notes: The top problem trend for the 2014 Escape is transmission failure at around 70k miles.

This is relatively low mileage for an expensive transmission failure ($4,500 average to fix), but unless the trend becomes more established, we are only awarding the 2014 Escape our "Beware of the Clunker" badge for now.

Let me add my Ford Escape windshield crack complaint to the list. I have had 4 cracked windshields within slightly more than 1 year. My prior vehicles occasionally got a small chip but it seems like this particular windshield cannot withstand a chip. Within a day it will spread 18" to 24". For example yesterday I did not even realize I had a "chip", parked my car in a parking garage at work. 8 hours later I leave and see I now have an 18" crack right in front of the driver's seat. I have had the window replaced 3 times within a year and don't even want to replace this one. My insurance is going to go up eventually because of all the claims. Although my deductible is only $100 I see the insurance is billed $700+ for each replacement.

I have had multiple vehicles but have never encountered this type of faulty windshield issues with them. All replacements have been through Safelite thus far. I will try another company this time in hopes that perhaps there is a difference in glass quality with other companies. Doubtful as they are all probably getting their glass from the same manufacturer.

Very disappointing and frustrating.

Rock hit windshield, got star-like chip. Brought to speedy glass, chip developed into a crack. According to repairman crack is too deep to repair. Will need new windshield - will have to pay my deductible amount out of pocket. Windshields should never break under normal driving conditions!

Bought mine as a Re-certified vehicle with 18k miles on it. In the last one year 2 months had wind shield crack 3 times so far and replaced it with Safelite twice using insurance. The first time it was a small rock hit the windshield and the other two times not sure how it happened.

If its one time I can take it but three times in nearly a year I can't think of any other reason than to doubt the quality of the windshield. My commute and travel route was same last 6 years and before Ford I used my other vehicle and never faced a windshield crack problem with that, Ford was my first windshield experience. This time even though I can replace it via insurance I do not have confidence that it doesn't break again. So not planning to replace it this time.

I purchased a 2014 Ford Escape, soon after purchase I got a tone chip, after that a crack across the top in the black area, since I have gotten 8 - 10 additional stone chips. In the 50 years I've been driving I have never had a stone chip or cracked windshield, what is wrong with this windshield any way

i saw several complaints about cracks that started at the bottom of windshields of 2014 Ford Escape.so I am adding to complaints as my windshield developed a small crack from the very bottom, in two days it ran halfway up vertically. I would think that since there are several similar incidents there may be a defect worth looking into. I will be replacing the windshield. After talking with Ford there are no recalls for this problem.

Got a small stone chip dead center top of the windshield aprox. 1.5 inches down from top (in the black dots). When I mentioned it to the dealership (Eastgate Ford) there was some head shaking and I was told I was on my own. As a licensed mechanic, we have been trained and told the windshield is a safety related item. This issue should not happen this easily. Unfortunately here in Ontario it is going to cost me approx. $ 400.00. Nice vehicle, sh*tty glass. Just bought an old Chevy pickup to replace this Ford.

This will be the 2nd time that I will have to replace my windshield. Both times it have cracked in almost the exact same spot down at the bottom in the black part of the glass. This is the worst windshield ever. I have never had this problem with any other windshield and Ford just doesn't seem to care that this sh*t sucks.

Purchased a New 2014 Ford Escape. A small rock hit my windshield in the black part and immediately starts to crack. I called the dealers-ship to see what they could do about it, they said that I have to repair it or call the insurance. I ask why a Ford windshield cracks so easily in the black dot area? It is a defective???? Now I have to pay for the repair because it cost 250 to 300 bucks.

windshield cracked

I was very happy to finally buy a NEW car!! We bought a 2014 Ford Escape. Yay. I Wish I had found this forum first.

Our new car was purchased in late August of 2014. By December, a small rock had flown up and smashed into my windshield. Since it was such a small ding, I thought nothing more of it since I have had other cars that had pebbles hit my windshield, and nothing happened. I just got the ding repaired and all was good again. I planned on doing the same thing with this windshield. Then, we had a snow storm and we got hit with 6 inches of snow. Well, that little ding is now a huge crack from the bottom center of my windshield to almost completely all the way across the drivers side.

I called Ford to inform them of this and they told me to call my insurance. I called my insurance, and my deductible is $500. A new windshield is $275-$350. Thanks Ford, for making such sh*tty windshields. I have not got mine replaced as of yet because I am so upset about it. So much for my new car.

Purchased a new 2014 Ford Escape on April the 4th. On June the 11th a rock hit my windshield. Generally a windshield should hold up to a small rock. It may chip or sometimes cause a small spider web crack which if taken care of in a timely manner can be fixed without windshield replacement. Like I said this is generally the case EXCEPT when it hits the black part of a Ford Windshield. When any object hits the black part of a FORD windshield it immediately starts to crack. It is my belief that the integrity of the windshield is compromised by those little black dots.

This problem appears to occure in all FORD model vehicles. My 2010 Ford F150 had the same thing happen with the same result (black area - crack). My 2012 Ford F150, middle of the windshield - rock chip - no crack - repaired.

Most of the time people either pay out of pocket for the new windshield or they go through their insurance coverage. I think people/insurance companies need to start looking into how and why a Ford windshield cracks and how many times does it occur in the rest of the windshield verses the black dot area.

I contacted the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, the person explained that it was my problem. True it is. But now it is Fords problem too!!! Maybe if someone reads this and it happens or has happened to them maybe they will question it too and if enough people question it maybe something will be done about Ford's defective (cheap) windshields.
