When the sun/moon roof was opened a metal piece holding it together fell off.it weighs a couple pounds and can come forward and hit someone, driver included.. it was held on by double sided tape. We checked you tube and saw others from 2020 to 2023 are also having this happen it cannot be repaired by the owner. Ford said it can be fixed for $1300-1500.

This is a safety issue that can occur without warning and a repeated failure, Ford repairs were not effective. The trim piece that goes in between the big and small parts of the glass on the sunroof keeps falling off and has caused over $500 in repairs because it jammed and broke the $15 rail clips that are not covered under the warranty. The cover is the width of the roof and is a cosmetic cap that is insufficiently attached with six double sided sticky squares that do not withstand heat/cold variations. This failure is not related to abuse or wear and tear. It is a cap that once it fails can fall on the driver or passenger if the roof is open or it will jam the sunroof cover and destroy the $15 guide clips attaching the cover to parallel rails. This failure occured at around 30,000 before it was repaired at 32,000 miles in May 2024 and has failed again in July 2024. This is a design failure that is not covered under warranty and owners are subject to expensive repairs for a known and predictable failure due to the insufficient attachment method for something that should never have to be removed.
1.) My backup camera has failed, and it is static and then continues today will not display and shows black. I can no longer use it or see out of it for backup purposes. 2.) I use my back up camera everyday as I live in a busy city and use it when parking and to assist me when there is a lot happening with parking on the side of the road and entering and exiting parking spots. 3.) Yes, I had it checked by a ford dealer, and they stated other vehicles were having this issue and it was odd mine had not been recalled. 4.) No my vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the warranty holder I have as well as the ford dealership. 5.) No everything was working fine and then the next time I turned my vehicle on the backup camera was no longer of use.
I started getting warning lights that stated I was having issues with my AWS and hill assist systems. Ford is telling me that I need a new AWD module installed for $770. The car only has 51,000 miles on it and there are numerous reports on the internet with people having the same issue.
last year in the summer of 2023 I first experienced my 2020 Ford Escape not being able to shift from park to reverse, neutral, or drive. It was a very hot day and my car had sat idle for 8 hours in the sun while I was working. I got into my vehicle and started the car. I tried to turn the dial type shifter to drive and it was locked. I immediately looked online on my phone to see if this was something like turning the wheel one way and then the other and it would unlock. I found some people said to press on the brake and release because maybe it had not completely disengaged when the vehicle was turned off, but that did not work. I then found something else that said to to engage the parking brake and then disengage, that did not work either. Now while stuck in the parking lot alone since all have left and I could not move, a client of the agency I work at, starts banging on my window and screaming at me. Luckily security was still inside and came out to assist me, but it could have gotten ugly because my car that is now only 4 years old, but was 3 years old then, won't function properly. I called the Ford Dealership I deal with, and they tell me that they have never heard of this problem. All the while I am sitting in the car now with the AC on, because it is so hot, and now my car shifts into gear when I try after 10-20 minutes. I found a forum where many people have had this issue and yet, Ford still tells me they have no idea what this is. Now this summer 2024 I have had this issue multiple days in row when it is hot and my car has sat for hours. I again called my local dealership and they still say that they have never heard of this issue and told me to have my car towed to the service center. And yet here is this [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
If the car is parked in the sun on a hot day, there are times when the car turns on but you cannot shift out of park. The knob will not turn. You are stuck until the car is able to shift. The engine and electrical will run but it is impossible to shift the car into gear. This has happened at least four times and is happening now because it is hot. Shutting the car off and restarting does not solve the problem. There appear to be other Ford Escape owners with this issue when I search online. It is not possible to replicate the issue at a mechanic because it only happens when the car is in the heat.
The welded part in the door broke. Door quit staying open, would shut on your leg. Horrible noise before it broke completely. Window would not roll down after the weld broke. Front driver side door.
The driver side of door just started being hard to open, makes loud noise like the hinges are catching-??. Along with that the day after that began, the window won-??t go down. This was in March.a- since then the passenger door behind the driver won-??t unlock and since yesterday, May 10th, I CAN-??T LOCK MY CAR!!!!! Whatever is going on with the door is having a domino effect of other functions!!!!
Driver door is making a loud creaking or popping noise when opening the door. Afraid the door might fall off. Have not taken it to a dealer for assessment yet. No warning signs or symptoms prior to this happening. Have read a lot of other complaints about this and don't know why there isn't a recall on this yet. This needs to be corrected before a serious injury happens if it hasnt already. Car only has 35k miles on it.
The driver and passenger only open all the way now. When the doors are opened it sounds like they are breaking or going to fall off. It is the mechanism that holds the door to the car when the doors are open.
The piece that keeps my driver side door from opening to the point of breaking has broken from the door, and in turn is preventing my driver side window from opening/closing. The cause of this problem is that the solder came loose from the inside of the door. If the wind catches my door, I risk the chance of it buckling at the hinge of the driver door. I have taken it to the dealership in my area and they have reported it to Ford, who states that they are aware of the problem and are trying to find a solution. I am being told that it is going to be a recall, but it is not ready yet? It has been this way for almost 2 months. I took it to the dealership the first time on 3/5/24. Still nothing. This is unacceptable. If anything they can put on a new door. Something needs to be done. They tried to get me to trade it in...I cannot afford that! The date below is approximate, it was around then that I noticed, but it started making a noise when I opened/closed the door for about a week before I called dealership about the problem.
Driver's side door stated popping when you open or close the door. No warning of any kind 4/18/24. It is harder to open and close requiring more forch than normal. The window also does not always go up or down all the time. The window has been an issue for a couple of months. We tried lubricating the arm, before we read online of the issue. We do have 3 small holes when the apprent tac welding once was. Very concerned that the door will not latch properly or remain closed during operation of vehicle. We have had the vehicle since it was brand new there is approximately 38,000 to 39,000. We can take to Ford dealer if you like for confirmation.
Driving's door hinge is broken. There was a investigation by NHTSA and it was closed due to Ford promising to fix doors to cutsomters satisfaction. Ford will only pay $1200 for at least a $3000 repair. I never received the letter in March that was suppose to go to all 2020 Ford Escapes about this problem. Ford sent to its dealerships an SSM 50150. This issue was known since Sept. 2021 but I was never advised about this. I was told by the dealership that it is out of warranty. It wasn't when the creaking and hard to close issue started. I didn't know that it would eventually break loose. My car was in and out of the dealership for another issue that took months to fix.
