Several times, usually at stop lights, while idling with foot on the brake, the engine surges up to approx 1000 RPM for approx 3-5 sec. If foot was not on the brake, the truck could have accelerated into the car in front of me, or into the intersection. Every time I'm at the Ford dealership I have them investigate, but nothing is found on the computer code search, and the symptom is very irregular and rare, so it has not reproduced while at the dealer. I've seen this reported before on mycarstats.com.

: the contact stated the vehicle accelerated on its own while approaching a traffic light traveling 5-10 mph. The cruise control was not activated at the time. The vehicle continued to accelerate while stopped at the light. In order to stop the acceleration the contact put the vehicle in the park position. The vehicle continued to drive normally after pulling out from the light; however the problem reoccurred. This has gotten progressively worse over the last two weeks. The dealership has been informed and determined there was a recall on the vehicle speed control; however concluded this specific problem was not one of the characteristics of that recall. The NHTSA recall number is: 05V388000, regarding the vehicle speed control.

The contact complained about several problems with vehicle. First, the accelerator pedal stuck. The dealer cleaned the throttle body which seemed to solve the problem. The vehicle would sometimes surge forward. She thought the surging was related to apparent transmission problems. She finally had the transmission rebuilt. Part of the cost was covered under the extended warranty. Secondly, the seat belt in the middle row did not retract correctly. The dealer could not duplicate the problem. Therefore, no repairs were made to the seat belt. Thirdly, the left rear door actuator had to be replaced because the power locks were not working. Fourthly, the rear passenger child safety lock did not work properly. Once the child safety lock was deactivated, and the door handle was raised from the inside, the child safety lock activated. The contact's husband corrected this problem by taking apart the lock and cleaning it. She had to push very hard on the exterior key pad to get it to work. The dealer did not think this was a problem since she was able to get it to work eventually. Lastly, the right front power window worked intermittently. The dealer could not duplicate the problem, and no repair was made.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford Expedition. On Friday, September 30, 2005, the contact was driving home from work, went home, picked up his family and started driving again. While in motion the contact began smelling and electrical burn. The contact had received a recall about the speed sensor control and called the dealer. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who disconnected the speed control sensor. The contact complained that the dealership only checked the speed control sensor and did not do anything to the rest of the wiring. There was no electrical continuity test.

New 2001 Expedition. Started lurching forward in 2002. This happens when I was parking in the garage, the foot is not touching any of the pedals its coasting very very slowly cause your going to put your foot on the break to stop. All of a sudden it lunges forward at the same time radio goes louder and the air conditioner or heater speeds up, its like a power serge. It has taken a while to figure that out, it happens so fast and is not predictable. When it does happen like last week it had been months, I had completely forgot about it. I was in the driveway parking by our Chevy truck and almost hit it. One time in the beginning it happened at a stop light I almost hit the car in front of me but I always have a few feet in front of me. However if I was at stop light and a pedestrian was walking across and this happened, I'm sure it would hit them cause they don't always walk between the white lines. In 2002 I did take the truck into Ford dealer they ran a test and it didn't acted up on them they said that until it would do it for them they couldn't fix it. So now my son will be driving next year if the problem isn't fixed we will have to get rid of it. It is a nice SUV and we wanted to have it for at least 200,000 miles.

My 2001 Ford Expedition XLT lurches forward when I am stopped in traffic or at a light. I have taken it in to the dealership several times to have the problem fixed. They cannot find a reason why my car does this. The service manager even drove the car around for a few days and could not figure it out. They tried re-setting the computer but that did not work. This is a big problem. It even happened when my mother was getting out of the car.

My Ford Expedition surges when I am idle at a traffic light or just stopped. It is so severe that I sometimes feels like I have been rear ended by another car. Nothing bad has happened yet but I am afraid I may hit a pedestrian at an intersection I am stopped at or I may run into another car.

I own a 2001 Ford Expedition. In the years since I have had it I have experienced sudden acceleration numerous times. I have been fortunate in that when the sudden accelaration happens I have been at a stand still at a traffic light or heavy traffic and therefor already stepping on the brakes. The engine will rev up all of a sudden, it has caught me off guard a couple of times because it does not happen often but when it does you can of course hear it, feel the vehicle reving up and see the needles on the meters go all the way to the other end. The times that it did catch me off guard the truck jumped forward in the second it took me to apply the brakes. It has not caused any crash or injuries but I watched a report on nbc channel 2 news in houston and felt I should probably report this in case this is happening to more people with this type of vehicle it could be a serious problem.

I own a 2001 Ford Expedition 5.4L and on at least ten different occasions the vehicle has suddenly accelerated. Luckily, every time this has occured the vehicle was at a full stop and my foot was on the brake pedal. The vehicle would surge forward and the tachometer would jump to about 3500 to 4000 RPM. The surge only lasts for a few seconds, but it is enough to lunge the vehicle forward. After the second or third incodent we took it back to the dealership where we bought it (dub miller Ford in rosenberg tx.) and they said they could not find anything wrong. I don't know what is wrong with this truck, but I would like to get it fixed before my wife or child are injured, this is my wife's primary vehicle and most of the incidents have happened to her.

My SUV occasionally accelerates when the rpms are low I.e. when idling at a light or coming to a slow stop. I have not had an accident or injury yet but I have taken it to the dealer a couple of times when it was still under warranty but they said they could find nothing wrong with it. The acceleration is not rocket-like but I can feel a slight jump and when this occurs I am quick to step on the brake. It does not occur on a regular basis.

At any speed, or when coming to a stop, the engine revved and raced intermittently. The throttle had become stuck on many occasions. The consumer's wife was backing out of the driveway and the throttle became stuck. The vehicle went out of control and crossed the street, struck a vehicle, and collided into the side of a house. The manufacturer and dealer were aware of the problem.

I was sitting behind one vehicle stopped at an intersection waiting for the light to change. The engine suddenly revved and lunged forward. Despite depressing the brake as hard as I could, I was unable to prevent the car from crashing into the car in front. I believe this surge may have happened previously. Approximately 1 1/2 years ago, I was accelerating up a hill when I suddenly felt a surge forward even after I stopped pushing the accelerator.
