So, last year I got one catalytic convertor fixed for $1200. Now, I have to do the other cat for $1700! Ford still believes it should gouge owners for ten-year old car parts. Why can't I go down to Napa and buy it? This will be my last Ford. Owned a 1993 Thunderbird with lots of problems. Wife loves Ford. Hopefully, this will be the year they are both out of my life.

I fixed the spark plug problem, then left side catalytic convertor went out. Six months later, right side convertor is going out. They are $1200 each since I live in the People's Republic of Kalifornia. Dealer part only. Ridiculous. Will never own another Ford if I can help it.

We have owned it since 2006. Served us well, until it began to shudder when accelerating. My mechanic said it was the spark plugs. He removed #5 and said to change one, and wait on the others. He explained that Ford came up with this ridiculous spark plug that breaks off in the head during removal.

It worked fine for a week or two, then the check engine light came on. He said to ignore the light. So we did. Now, fast forward a year later.

Mechanic now says the catalytic converter needs to be changed out. $3500!! Heck no. I can't afford that. I went to get a second opinion. Both mechanics said to just trade it in.

I am writing this for the beyond-stupid spark plug issue, and now the cat converter. How many people have experienced this issue? How do I resolve this?
