Both front brake calipers failed while driving, resulting in a 70 mile tow and causing extensive damage to both front rotors and pads, as well as the calipers themselves. Had repairs performed at a Ford dealer and requested help in paying the bill from Ford Customer Relations. Ford declined to assist. Exchanged several emails with Customer Relations and subsequently sent letter to Ford headquarters. Ford continues to refuse assistance on basis that warranty period has expired.
This type of failure should simply not happen to a well-maintained vehicle with only 23000 miles on the odometer. This is supposedly not a common problem on 2008 Expeditions, so it appears that a parts or assembly defect was responsible for this occurrence. Although beyond the 36 month warranty period, this is the kind of situation in which many manufacturers would provide "good will" assistance.
I don't know if this is now standard industry practice, but Ford no longer has district reps to work with dealers and customers on out of warranty repairs. All customer complaints go to the customer relations division, which offers profound apologies but provides no assistance and then sends advertisements for more Ford products.
