The throttle body had a complete failure at an intersection, resulting in the inability to move forward. The vehicle went into shutdown mode and eventually locked the transmission into park. A failure like this at speed, or otherwise, presents the possibility for vehicle crashes and injuries.

The contact owns a 2015 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the vehicle had a sudden loss of power and stalled more than once. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was not able to provide a permanent repair solution. The contact stated that the throttle body failed and the engine was still running. The vehicle was not able to be driven and was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body actuator controller needed to be replaced. The vehicle was at the dealer to receive the repair and the contact was waiting for the manufacturer to supply the part to the dealer. The approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal acceleration. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 47,000.

The contact stated that smoke entered the vehicle after the crash. The vehicle was towed to an independent facility. A police report was filed. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
