Been having small "clunk" sounds and hard gear shifts from the time I brought it home, but it was intermittent and I always kind of blew it off as minor inconvenience. Until May 2023, when I was passing a few cars and accelerating to enter an expressway in Texas - crossing two lanes of traffic all going about 75-80 mph. My Expedition acceleration tanked - I went from 75 to 52 in seconds in heavy traffic all going high rates of speed. I had the gas pedal pressed to the floor while my transmission (I think) shifted hard with three hard clunks and refused to accelerate. In a matter of seconds it kicked into gear and accelerated back up to the 75mph speed. It scare me to death! I could have been killed! I went to a friends house where I was in a pretty rural area not close to a dealership. After I left there, it didn't happen for a couple of months.
Then this last weekend it happened again, Not three clunks, but one hard one - same scenario. Quick, hard acceleration to pass a car, and it did the same thing. Mph tanked from 75 to 47 unable to accelerate and had traffic coming up behind me honking and swerving around. This time it threw an error code of "Error - shift system..." it came on and was gone so quickly during a time I was unable to get the entire wording. My adult daughter was in the car with me and witnessed the entire event. Took it to the dealership today, they checked all the codes and can't find anything wrong. There IS something wrong - this is DANGEROUS! I currently have 45,000 miles and power train warranty expires at 60K. Paid 80K for a vehicle that is having transmission issues this early that no one can seem to figure out is crazy.
