I have a 2001 Ford F150 supercrew pick up. I don't recall giving a notice in the mail, however I saw a story on tv about a woman whose home burned down due to the defect of the cruise control. My wife drives the vehicle to work everyday in weslaco and the dealership is just a block away from her office. This is not the dealership that the vehicle was purchased from. My wife took the vehicle to the local dealership twice to get the recall fixed but the customer service department was so rude she didn't leave it. The last time was just Wednesday June 8th.there is more to tell about this but not enough space. I am unemployed and my wife's income is all we have right now so our insurance had lapsed so she parked the truck outside my mother in law's house and my wife was driving her mom's car. Tuesday June 14th at about 4pm someone knocked on my mother in law's door and told her that the truck was on fire. She called the fire department and they came and put it out but the entire truck was gone. The fire marshal told hundreds of photos and documented everything. He told us that it was defintely the recall of a factory default. He said there had been 5 cases in weslaco all the same. The fire starts in the motor under the front side left tire. The tire popped, the hood was totally burns away the bumper and the paint on the sides. The dash board, side mirrors and the motor is all one molded piece. The winshield exploded with glass everywhere. I am only thankful that it didn't burn down the house or that someone I love wasn't driving it when the fire started.

The contact owns a 2001 Ford F150. The cruise control quit about one year ago. Also, one month ago consumer could not get vehicle out of park. Yesterday could not get vehicle out of gear again. He replaced the fuse to cruise control after that the cruise control worked. He bought more fuses, they would blow everytime the cruise control was plugged in. Ford said that the fuses, cruise control and the park gear were not connected by the fuses. Service gargae said to unplug the cruise control. When he unplugged the cruise control, the vehicle came out of park, and the cruise control would work. He called Ford, and they said this vehicle was not in a recall. As soon as he started to plug the cruise control T it started to smoke. So he quit, trying to plug it up.

On or about March 15, 2005 I got into my F150, 2001, Ford pickup and started the vehicle, when immediately smoke began pouring out from under the hood. This was in the morning at the start of my day, and the truck had been sitting all night and the engine was cold. When I looked under the hood I observed a red hot glow on the driver's side around some wiring. After certified Ford technicians examined the truck I was told that this was a result of a defect in the cruise control switch which I understand your Agency is investigating. These repairs cost me $728. Am I able to recoup my repair cost?

Take a look a my vehicle history, I baby my truck - never used off-road. I have replaced several items that I feel should have been fixed by Ford. I had to buy a warranty that cover most of the stuff. Some parts with defects that were replaced. Most replaced at 40,000-80,000 miles 1.) transmission completely replaced 2.) rearend replaced 3.) I'm on my third set of all 4 ball joints 4.) tie rods, tie rod ends (replaced twice now) 5.) coil 6.) headlight housing (3-4 times) 7.) brakes, numerous things worked on and replaced dealership was never able to stop the thumping noise that is still there, said it was normal (not) 8.) idler arm (replaced twice) 9.) sunroof switch replaced twice, reported loud bang when opening. A&B Kia said it was normal - no, now it is completely broke and will barely open and have to force closed. 10.) sideview mirrors vibrated 11.) ABS sensor replaced 12.) keyless entry replaced 13.) steering bearings replaced 14.) back bumper is rusting these are just some of the things I can remember right off hand. I've got all receipts. I take care of this truck - wash and wax once a week by hand (unless really bad weather) then I just take it to the car wash automatic or actual people washing. Keep inside just as nice. If you want to check out a vehicle for safety/recall information you should start with mine.
