I had a 99 Ford F150 with 4.6 liter I had 380,000 miles when I gave it to my brother in-law. Still running.

I bought a 2005 with 65,000 miles and have had numerous problems, new exhaust manifolds, REPLACED VCT'S, PLUGS, COILS, now engine has had 4 cylinders fail and mechanic says I needs new phasers, timing chains etc.

I have owned a number of F-150 over the years with great reliability but I am debating what to do with this engine. I would like to stick in a different engine because the truck is still in great condition. For the cost to do the phasers (2500 approx.) it is probably smarter to install a rebuilt engine.

VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ENGINE FROM FORD. ITS FINE TO HAVE A PROBLEM BUT THEY SHOULD STAND BEHIND THIS PRODUCT AND DEVELOP A SOLUTION FOR THIER CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE BEEN VERY LOYAL OVER THE YEARS.

I bought this 2005 F150 almost brand new in Nov 05. No problems untll 2007 when it threw a piston rod. I've worked cars all my life, never have I seen such a mess in motor design. I had to get my wife's nephew to come help me fix it.

Not long after that it started running really bad.. Yep, you guessed it, coil packs and spark plugs. Plugs were stuck in the motor but I had to buy platinum plugs. anything less won't last. So finally it's OK till 2014. Blown head gasket. Get the head off, gasket done, but cam phaser is broke. New one at Ford is $300.00, needs chains, guides and everything. Like $1,000.00 with everything. It's a job getting the front cover off and the timing procedure is ridiculous. The truck is sitting in my yard. I bought me a Dodge 1500 with a 360, runs great.

Just like all the others who are disgusted with Ford, we bought a F150 new in Aug. 2005. We've taken good care of it just as the manual says. Besides the brakes seizing up and burning up the rotors when the truck was almost brand new, we've had a horrible ticking sound from the start. We've actually had guys walk past the truck as it was parked and running, look at it, comment to each other and start laughing. They were obviously mechanics as they wore uniforms and were greasy. The uniforms, not the guys. :) Anyway, we've had people look at us and say, "Is THAT a diesel?!" *Blush. No, it's just the piece of crap F150 with an obvious whacked out engine issue. Anyway, the truck started missing at 45 mph and we found out it needed new spark plugs. The problem with that was, no shop in our area would work on it. We tried it ourselves and of course, it broke off. We rented the tool to pull it, but could not get it out. We had a mechanic friend come over to do it for us, he could not get it. ($100) So, we practically begged a local shop to help us. He said he'd only remove the one that was broken and replace the one that was bad. ($166) Right after that there was another issue with it...can't remember what it was, and we shelled out another few hundred bucks. Within a week, we totally lost power and limped it into the shop where it was checked out again. We needed a new engine. $6000. ($80 for that information.) We got a second opinion. We needed a new engine. $6000. ($40 for the half hour it took for him to realize it was a pile of garbage.) So what do we do with a nice looking, well cared for piece of metal that is only 9 1/2 years old? We sell it for parts and buy another truck. A Chevy or a GMC. We will NEVER, EVER buy another Ford. And we will will be sure to share this experience with everyone we know. Will it affect Ford? Probably not. But if everyone who has dealt with this lying, corrupt, greedy company would let everyone know about their experience, maybe we could affect them, just a little?! Am I angry! Yes, we sit here without our truck and without money to replace it. Thanks Ford scum! You make me sick! You know we are all having issues, the same issues with YOUR design, yet you continue to deny that there is a problem and your sales people continue to lie and push your crap onto trusting people. Creeps!

Nah past it. Important to pass on to anyone that has similar problem or is being sold a bill of goods in a potential buy or warranty battle situation. I was told that the noise issue was merely an annoyance - not to worry. Regularly raised it when bringing in to dealer for servicing. Earlier complaints on the record went on deaf ears when the engine started blowing sparks out the bottom end. Luckily was able to limp home.

Ford dealer said they fixed that issue so I should buy a new one since it was 15 K to put in a new engine.

Went across the road and bought a Dodge.

All the marketing crap about best selling truck etc. hype is just that. Ford bottom line is more important than building customer loyalty. So - got none.

I WAS TOLD BETWEEN 2004 AND 2009 WAS THE WORST FOR THE ENGINES IN THE F150 AT 175,000 MILES . BET HENRY FORD IS ROLLING OVER IN HIS GRAVE . SOUNDS LIKE FORD IS JUST SCREWING THE AMERICAN PEOPLE . WON'T EVER BUY A FORD AGAIN

driving to work, heard a clinking sound and tuck stopped.. diagnostic shows no compression on left side.. was told to get another engine.. this will cost approx 3,500.. truck still sitting in front yard, cant afford to fix or find engine unless under $1,000.
