brakes failed while driving

I was driving with my two children (12 and 2) on a busy main street coming up to a light I applied the brakes and lost all pressure in the brake pedal. In a panic (never having experiencing brake loss of any kind) I continued to pump the pedal with no success, I had nowhere to go as there were cars on either side of me, I ended up running into the car in front of me at pretty decent speeds. The airbags did deploy dislocating my shoulder and causing several other minor injuries to myself and my 12yo.

On initial start, I back up from my driveway going down to road level and the brakes are not responding. I have tto put it in neutral and all the pressure possible on the brake pedal to slow down. For the rest of the day it seems to be ok. Someone suggested the anti lock system is faulty.

Vehicle has been maintained by Ford dealers since purchased new in August, 2009. Total brake failure without warning. Resevoir empty, no apparent leaks. Possible fluid leaking from master cylinder into the power brake booster.
