My Ford F-150 21013 engine light goes on and I lose total control of acceleration and slips out of gear to neutral. All the gauge lights go out and I have to pull over and turn ignition off. I restart the truck and all seems to be normal again.

This is the second time I have had this issue with this truck. Back in 2017 I had the same problem and no one could diagnose it until it totally went out. At that time had the cluster replaced and seemed to fix the problem. It is happening again three years later. It cost $783 to fix last time.

F-150 Lariat 3.5L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 104,000 miles

Sudden downshift when driving, have to pull over immediately. Speedometer will fail also. So far happens at least twice a week. Turning car off and on again works short term. VIN # did not pull up recalls even though this a well recognized problem with F150s. I think that is bull, I am taking to the dealership tomorrow. This is my 16 year old son's truck, worried it's only a matter of time before it causes an accident.

F-150 XLT 5.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 73,000 miles

This truck suddenly downshifts to low gear, the speedometer falls to zero and the odometer reads 000000. The digital gauges in the center of the cluster go blank as well. This has happened 5 times in the past two weeks. The truck is no longer safe to operate, but must be used in wet weather as this is the only vehicle other than motorcycles.

I have been to three shops, (2 transmission shops and a Firestone), called two dealerships and no one knows what to do. At Firestone, they put the truck on the "COMPUTER" and found no codes. One dealership said the best bet is to trade this truck in! Now, what does that tell you?!?!?

I am sure that before a shop can figure this out this vehicle will be involved in some form of crash. This problem is just like the issues addressed in the recalls of 2011 - 2012 Ford F-150's. Ford Motor Company, please address this issue before someone dies!
