F-150 LX 3.5L

Driving on Interstate at steady speed about 60 mph when sudden loss of power, BIG orange wrench in display, no throttle response. Serious safety issue in high speed traffic. Lucky I was in right lane and could get out of traffic. Turned engine off, waited a minute, and restarted. Ran very rough. Turned off again and looked through the manual as directed on the display and found NOTHING about the BIG wrench. Restarted and seemed to run OK with the check engine light on. Stopped at a service shop and had codes checked. P2111. Drove home (Saturday) and did an on-line search. Tried the re-calibration procedure and the check engine light went off.

The re-calibration procedure is to turn the key to the on position, depress the accelerator slowly taking at least 10 seconds, release the pedal taking at least 10 seconds and turn the key off. Turn engine on to see if the check engine light goes off.

F-150 Platium

  • Automatic transmission
  • 11,000 miles

This is the 7th Ford 150 (new) with little issues I've owned. The 2016 platinum I purchased in Dec 2015 has given more problems than all rest combined. Vehicle could be running at any speed hill descent light comes on engine shuts down to an idle. Over the past 3 weeks this has happened 5 times. One time no where to get off a 2 lane highway having to shut engine off restart and continue while blocking traffic, embarrassed and scared. This is extremely dangerous. A good way to get to get hurt.

The dealership that I purchased the vehicle at has made great efforts to fix the issue that is described as throttle body replacement. I have no issues what so ever with the dealership except after trying to trade for a new comparable vehicle felt they wanted crazy money difference .

I don't like nor trust this vehicle anymore so will try and trade to a different make after being a Ford guy for many years.

F-150 XL 3.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,326 miles

Driving my new F-150 on the freeway at 65mph when I lose power, 600rpm and the traction control warning light came on along with the check engine light. It couldn't have happened at a more dangerous spot on the freeway. I sat in the vehicle and checked my owners manual. The entire time I could hardly focus on what I was reading because I was checking my rear view mirror waiting for someone to slam into the back of me. I had shut the engine off butt attempted to start the engine which it did. I drove it approximately 2 miles and it lost power again. I made it off the freeway and had it towed to the dealer I bought it from, Kearny Pearson Ford. I am anticipating them telling me it is the throttle body. What I'm wondering is when will it happen again????? If it does, I'm going to pursue the Lemon law. It seems Ford is very well aware of this problem but is going to wait until someone gets killed before issuing a recall.

Update from Jul 31, 2016: Yes indeed, it was the throttle body was stuck in the open position. When I called to check on my vehicles status after Ford had the truck for 6 hours, I was told they were working on diagnosing the problem. I mentioned it appeared to have all the symptoms of a throttle body malfunction as I had been reading about on-line. The service tech said he thought that could be the problem and would pass it on to the mechanic. After about 10 minutes, I get a call back from the service tech telling me, " sure enough it's the throttle body." Go figure, Ford is trying to hide the problem. I hope no one gets hurt or killed before Ford is mandated to recall the defective throttle bodies.

F-150 XL 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 4,500 miles

My wife and I were driving on the interstate at about 75 miles per hour and my new truck just quit in traffic and at the same time truck shut down the traction malfunction light appeared on the screen. Had to turn off the engine and restart the engine. Got back on the highway, the same thing happened again 10 minutes later at about 60 mph. Previous to these two mentioned issues, the same thing had happened three hours earlier while driving at about 45 mph. All three times I had to shut down the truck and restart the engine to get going again. All three times the traction malfunction lights came on.

We called the nearest Ford dealer and asked to come in with my truck while explaining the issues to a service person. We made it to the dealership where we were treated with kindness and empathy. After a few minutes we were given the bad news, throttle body was bad. Here we were stuck at a dealership in South Carolina but yet were on our way home to Fort Myers area in Fl. We were told that the TB's were on back order and it could take 1, 2 or three weeks for one to come in.

We finally received a phone number for the Ford regional manager. The rep told us to rent a vehicle to get home with and Ford would reimburse us. One of the persons at the dealership gave us a ride to the airport to rent a car. We finally got home and returned the rental car.

I received a call from the area rep updating me that the part had not arrived on June 6. Got another call on June 7 from the dealer that the part was on its way or they had received the new part. I asked to be called again when all was repaired and tested. Today is June 8, no word yet. I will have to fly back to South Carolina when my truck is ready for pick up. Someone at the dealership will pick me up at the airport and bring me back to pick up my truck So far so good. Perfect customer service for me and my wife. Still a bit disappointed in my truck but Ford is standing behind the warranty and is giving us excellent customer service just like in the days of old. When I am reimbursed for my extra expenses things will be complete. I guess this is about the best that could be done and we are in appreation of Ford and the Rep who decided to help us.
