Been having this issue for months. Go to hit the gas to go from a stop truck shutters and hastates to move. No check engine light has come on. Thought it was the fuel we put in it but no matter what fuel it still does it. Almost have been hit a dozen times with my children in the truck with me due to truck will not Accelerate and shutters when you go to take off from a stop. Even when putting the vehicle into sports mode and hit the gas, the truck hesitates and shutters as well. Been to repair shops and they stated they can't find anything wrong with it due to no check engine light being on.

I just started towing with my 2018 2.7L F-150 Eco Boost. I went on a long trip with my family towing our camper. When coming off the highway we slowed down to yield for our turn. The vehicle shut off in the middle of the highway, presenting a serious safety concern for me and my family. Throughout the rest of the trip this continued to happen when coming to a stop. Ford has known about this safety issue since 2018. TSB 182249A was issued on August 16, 2018.

Subject: Urgent Resolution Required for Defective 2018 Ford F150 Truck Dear [Dealership Manager/General Manager], I am writing to express my profound disappointment and frustration with the 2018 Ford F150 truck I purchased from your dealership five months ago. Despite being certified pre-owned by Ford, the vehicle has been plagued by significant mechanical issues, primarily excessive oil consumption, leading to engine and transmission failure. This situation is deeply troubling, as it not only poses a major safety concern but also represents a significant financial burden and inconvenience. Despite repeated attempts to address these issues through servicing at Ford Sawgrass, the truck has been deemed unserviceable, necessitating a new engine and transmission. My efforts to seek resolution from Ford Motor Company have been met with indifference, as they have cited a third-party warranty that allegedly supersedes their responsibility. Similarly, Grieco Ford of Delray Beach has been unresponsive to my complaints, citing the "as is" nature of the sale. I am requesting immediate action from Ford Motor Company to rectify this situation, including providing a new engine and transmission or compensating Sawgrass Ford for the necessary repairs. This defect in the 5.0 Coyote engine constitutes consumer fraud, and I expect Ford to take full ownership and accountability for it. I trust that both Ford Motor Company and the NHTSA will uphold their integrity and address this matter promptly. Please consult with Jonathan in the service department at Sawgrass Ford (Tel: 954-851-9000) to expedite the resolution process. I appreciate your urgent attention to this matter and look forward to a swift and satisfactory resolution. You can reach me at [XXX] or via email at [XXX]. Sincerely, INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

see NTSHA report of technical service bulletin. This describes exactly the issue. As a result, the timing chain has been diagnosed as stretched due to the cam phaser issue. From what I understand, the safety concern is that the timing chain, if left undiagnosed/unrepaired can cause engine failure, loss of control etc. Ford has attempted to fix the VCT (Variable camshaft timing. [XXX]. the below is Ford's TSB issued 04May2023 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 3.5L EcoBoost - Cold Start Ticking/Tapping/Rattle With Possible No Restart During Auto-Start-Stop Operation 23-2143 04 May 2023 This bulletin supersedes 22-2200. Model: Ford 2018-2020 Expedition Built on or before 30-Nov-2019 2017-2020 F-150 Engine: 3.5L EcoBoost Built on or before 30-Nov-2019 Lincoln 2018-2020 Navigator Built on or before 30-Nov-2019 Summary This article supersedes TSB 22-2200 to update the production fix date, Action statement and customer symptom. NOTE: Certain parts may now be reused for this repair. Refer to the Service Procedure for details. Issue: Some 2017-2020 F-150 and 2018-2020 Expedition/Navigator vehicles built on or before 30-Nov-2019 and equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a ticking/tapping or rattle type noise from the top front cover area of the engine on initial start-up after a cold soak of 6 hours or more that may last for 2-5 seconds. Some vehicles may also exhibit an intermittent condition with no auto restart during auto-start-stop operation with or without diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P164C present in the powertrain control module (PCM). This may be due to a worn variable camshaft timing (VCT) unit. To correct the condition, follow the Service Procedure to replace the VCT units. Ford has a known motor defect with 2018-2020 F150 pickups with coyote engine. In my case at 57k miles dealer determined I need a new engine due to this oil consumption issue caused by the costing they sprayed on the motor cylinders. Searching the internet thousands of this model have same issue and ford refuses to recall it. In fact I am having issues even getting Ford to cover it under warranty. While I jave not experienced a safety issue yet, if the motor seizes while on the highway it is highly likely to cause a safety risk. Fords fix as indicated by attachment is to extend the dipstick so you put additional oil(takes 10 qts by default so requiring more) to hide the issue from consumers. Their goal for sure is to hide the issue from consumers until out if warranty.

Three occurrences within a week, low oil pressure and check engine light illuminated on 2018 F-150. Twice at cruising speed (20-50 mph) and once when accelerating(60-70mph) to pass. When accelerating to pass, light(s) illuminated, and experience a temporary loss of power. Took vehicle for inspection and notified vehicle was 6 quarts low. Vehicle had last had oil change approx. 5,000 miles before incident, and had no evidence of leaking. I was given a copy of TSB 19-2365(Excessive Oil Consumption) and advised to see dealer. Dealer stated this was a known issue, even though not widely published/disseminated. Dealer charged for performing maintenance under TSB and advised to return in 3,000 miles.

The engine makes a popping sound, acceleration and deceleration rattles and response delay. Dealer repair was a replacement of the intake manifold/runner controls. Service advisor advised the dowels that hold the interior parts and runners come lose due to improper factory installation or defect. The popping is raw gas causing the popping. When the runners fall out the vehicle will lose power. Obvious safety defect and concern to the public. The vehicle has 30K miles, no warning light or computer error shown at the dealer, obvious concern with this. Concern with transmission delay, clunking and jerking, along with the poor running engine. The dealer said this was normal and again no warning light comes on or computer code. All repairs and concerns have been addressed with the dealer. Ford is res041920ponsible for a poorly built truck and lack of warning systems in place.
