This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I replaced the rear brakes on my 1995 Ford F250. I put on new duralast brake shoes (part #358) from autozone. Afterwards, the emergency/parking brake failed. I took everything apart and took a while before I found the problem. At the top of the brake shoes there is a half circle where the front and back shoe meets and that is where the emergency/parking brake cam pushes the shoes apart. The oem shoes have a tall shoulder at the very tip top where the cam pushes against the rear shoe, the duralast shoe has a shorter shoulder and allowed the cam to slip over the top of the rear shoe causing the unexpected emergency/parking brake failure.
