Took it in to the dealer after returning from a long trip in which the AC stopped working. They put dye in the AC system since no leak could be found. Went back a week later and was told that the evaporator which is behind the dash would have to be replaced at a total cost of $1500. I said that I had never had an AC problem with any other vehicle and that I thought that after 2 years and less than 70k miles, I found this to be unacceptable. The Service Technician then told me that it seemed to be a problem with the super dutys and that several had been in with the same problem. If that is actually the case, why is Ford not liable for this. I have driven Ford trucks since 1970 and this is my 5th one. Maybe my last one.
Update from Jul 20, 2016: Well, the extended warranty took care of things - $1999.26. I had to pay the $100 deductible. However, that is not the point. To have something of this magnitude break after 2 years and 66k miles is not normal and should be considered a workmanship or design defect IMO. Also, the cost of labor for this repair was over $1600 - very poor design to have to remove the entire dash to get to the part. The cost of labor should never exceed the cost of a part that is replaced - within reason. Anyway, I am happy that I purchased the extended warranty this time - something I never, never do.
