The contact pulled to the side of the road, exited the vehicle, and discovered that the engine compartment was on fire; the vehicle was unoccupied during the fire. No warning lights were illuminated. Prior to the failure the "Losing Power" message was displayed on the instrument panel. A fire department report was not filed. A police department report was not filed. No injuries were sustained. The contact used water bottles to extinguish the fire. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 51,000.?

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with fuel pump failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the parts needed to repair the vehicle was ordered. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 58,000.
