CarComplaints.com Notes: Ford significantly updated the Fusion for the 2010 model year. We wish they hadn't

Throttle body issues have led to a ton of reports about a sudden deceleration and loss of power while driving. Ford issued a “customer satisfaction program” in March 2014 that, unsurprisingly, has left very few customers satisfied.

2010 is also the year we started seeing complaints about the power steering failing. Throttle and steering failure? Yeah, that’s why this is a clunker.

I bought my '10 Fusion from CarMax August of 2017 and was extremely happy with it. Aside from being cautious with it as it was previously a rental everything was working as it should.

Around December 2017 I noticed that the car whenever it was shifted from Park to Drive would try to jump away from you and the car would slightly dip in the back. Being December I thought the cold had something to do with the fluids. Finally March 22, 2018 I took it to the Ford dealer for diagnosis and it was determined that it was a "Forward Clutch Hydraulic Leak" and that to further diagnose it and to see if it was covered under my extended warranty they'd need to tear-down the transmission and I would have to authorize $1,500++ (not including additional costs if it wasn't covered under the warranty).

Well National Auto Care sent an inspector that determined it was a covered item and that they would authorize a used replacement. Well finally a month later that used transmission came with a broken wiring harness and they also covered that as well. I am still waiting for my car to come back to me after a month of being at the Ford dealer.

I will further update my findings once I get all of my paperwork.

This problem first showed up after the dealer I bought the car from had installed a transmission software update a few months after I bought it. I purchased an extended warrantee with the car. Each time I went in for warrantee servicing I complained about the problem. in 2012 I moved to OKC, OK and started going to a local dealer for servicing and again I brought up the transmission problem. at no time did any warning light or error code make itself known to me or the shop staff. after the warrantee expired the problem went from bad to worse and I returned to my local dealer to have it checked again. this time the shop staff was able to determine the problem was fluid leaking past the seal between 1st and 2nd gear inside the transmission. the shop quoted $4200 to rebuild the transmission of $4800 for a new transmission. this should have been diagnosed and fixed while still under the warranty.

I have had my car for almost 2 years and around March 2010 the car started having problems. The car started slipping out of gears and would take a long time to shift from 2nd to 3rd. It would take revving really bad when you pressed on the gas and I would only be able to drive about 10 mph.

After the recommended transmission power flush, my '10 Ford Fusion has had nothing but problems. When I drive it approximately 60+ miles and stop, whether it be at a stop light or turn off engine, when I start to go then my vehicle jerks like it is jumping gears. I have taken to dealership 3 separate times, twice to the same dealership. They tell me that they can not duplicate the problem. They are not driving it the distance that is needed to "duplicate" the problem. Since this does not go to the car computer then it does not light up the check engine light so therefore no detection for what it does. Any suggestions? I did file a complaint with Ford twice on this and have not heard back from them after the second one was filed in January 2015.

Speaking with a few other people, the suggest that I take this to a Specialist for transmissions. Ford Motor really has no interest in fixing their own brand of vehicles nor do they train their service technicians to look outside the box. Their diagnostic computers are only going to pick up a problem if it has been input into their program. Not TOO impressed with the customer service at the dealership nor from the office of Ford Motor Corp.

On 4/30/2011 I sent my car into the dealership for the recommended transmission power flush. I paid for this service and I have had nothing but problems with my car ever since. I have taken into the dealership with no resolution to the problem. I then contacted Ford Motor directly and was directed to take to another local dealership to have a second opinion done. With no avail, I was once again sent on my way with no resolution to the problem.

I keep explaining to the service personnel how when I drive for at least 60 plus miles, when I come to a complete stop and try to take off my car then jerks like the transmission is slipping or trying to jump gears. They tell me that they can not duplicate the problem and without the problem setting a "check engine" light they have no way of detecting the problem/problems. Again, I explain the distance needed to drive in order to "duplicate" the problem. I have had no satisfaction on any of the service personnel. This has been going on since 2011.
