This is a Ford design problem. I have had to replace the thermostat housing on my 2007 Ford Ranger 8 times since 2009. Each replacement lasting 3 to 6 months. The last one was replaced November of 2014 and it has started to leak now, not bad but I have to keep the coolant level checked. Need to add coolant about every 3 weeks.
I think Ford needs to design a better housing not made of plastic due to the heat of the motor the current housing cant withstand the constant and high heat that it is subject to day in and day out. I have been out several hundred dollars due to a poor part design by Ford. This my not cause them to lose sleep but it sure makes my life crazy, not knowing if this will leave me stranded at some point and cost me a towing bill on top of a 9th thermostat housing along with 9 thermostats as well.
If there are others who have had this problem please complain here too. Note : I also was told that the 2006-2010 Ford Focus has the same issue.
