Taurus

  • Automatic transmission
  • 35,355 miles

I was driving home on the highway last week at 7:00 pm. I had my mom and my 2 boys (10 and 5 years old) with me. I was doing 45 mph because it was pouring down rain really badly when all of a sudden the rpm gauge started rising rapidly, it rose almost to 4. I got off the road onto the shoulder in order to figure what was happening. For the first few seconds that the my car was in park the rpm gauge was still on about 2. When the rpm gauge went back to normal I put my car in drive in order to get to the next exit but nothing happened. Needless to say the transmission died. I never had a ny warning signs whatsoever. I had to have my car towed, it is now sitting in my garage. I can just imagine what it is going to cost me!

Taurus SE 3.0L V6 Dohc

  • Automatic transmission
  • 184,000 miles

I purchased my Taurus the first week of November 2007. It was in excellent driving condition, with no signs of any problems. Three days after I bought it I was on the interstate running a steady 70mph. When suddenly the car just seemed to go into neutral. I coasted to the side of the road and found that it had no forward or reverse gears. I checked the fluid and it was fine, There were no warnings or signs that this was about to happen. I had to have it towed to a repair shop and they said the main shaft inside the transmission had snapped in two. I was able to locate a used, low-mileage transmission for $400 and the shop charged me $500 to install it. I have had no further problems, but probably will never fully trust it again.

The worst part of it all was that it happened on the one day of 2007 that it snowed. It was sleeting/snowing and around 30 deg. when I had to walk 4 miles to the nearest exit to call a tow truck.
