CarComplaints.com Notes: Most people need a car where the coil springs don't puncture or shred tires while driving. The Taurus fails in that respect.
The 1999-2003 Ford Taurus has a huge problem with coil springs breaking, which can puncture or even shred tires while driving.
The US government spent THREE YEARS (2008-2011) investigating the 2002-2003 Taurus coil springs. Although Taurus/Sable from earlier years were recalled, ultimately the NHTSA did not force a recall. They determined that because there had been no deaths & very few bad crashes & injuries, the broken coil springs defect was no big deal & not a safety defect. Tell that to all the owners who had close calls...

Both Front Coils Springs broke in less then 1 month of each other and punctured & shredded both front tires that were not even 1 1/2 yeas old. Just had a flatbed tow take it in to local shop today, now just waiting to hear the cost that I can't afford and will have to place myself in debt to pay for the repairs.
Also the transmission fluid leaked out, all of it, I left it sitting for a while then put some in it and now it seems to be holding but I know that only cause I cannot drive it for any length of time till the springs and struts are replaced. Shredded the tires that the coils springs punctured getting it out of the driveway to line it up with the flatbed, it started riding on the rim.
