I swapped out the peeling chrome tail lights with the solid red lights from another Taurus model. I wasn't interested in a recurring problem. This was a pretty lame and annoying defect, but little did I know that this was just the appetizer...engine gremlins common to this make and model were lurking in the shadows to be documented in another complaint.

For such a nice car, it really looks bad with the paint peeling off the tail light.

I had the car less than month and saw the chrome peeling off the back lights and they replaced the lights but 6 months later and now it just looks horrible it just continues to peel no matter how many times they change the light the next one does the same thing. They should correct the problem and do a recall because it degrades the look of a very expensive vehicle and on a resale it will degrade the value of my car!

I think Ford knows about this issue and provide the owners of these Ford SHO car owner a recall to replace the chrome edging around the tail light that will last for the life of the automobile. After all these vehicle are not cheap to buy.

Paid almost 50K for a high performance car that a company won't even replace the peeling chrome on. I live in a region with very little moisture, dry climate and my car is garaged everyday. Definably a "fair weather" vehicle.

Taurus LTD 3.5L V6

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN UNDER 1 YEAR. THE FIRST TIME WAS 06/01/12 AND I HAD TO PAY HALF THE COST BECAUSE OF MILEAGE. NOW FORD IS SAYING THEY WILL NOT COVER ANY OF THE COST EVEN THOUGH THEY OBVIOUSLY HAVE A DEFECTIVE PART ON THEIR VEHICLE. I PUT A LOT OF MILES ON MY CAR HOWEVER I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT INSIDE AND OUT. THERE IS NOT REASON WHY A CHROME PART SHOULD BE DEFECTIVE AFTER ONLY 10 MONTHS UNDER NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I CANNOT BELIEVE FORD WOULD CONTINUALLY USE A DEFECTIVE PART ON THE TAURUS WHEN THEY KNOW IT IS NO GOOD AND THEN EXPECT THE CUSTOMER TO PAY FOR IT AFTER ALREADY PAYING A HIGH PRICE FOR THE CAR. OBVIOUSLY FORD DOESN'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR MONEY. AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THE MILEAGE ON A VEHICLE HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH A DEFECTIVE PART THAT HAS ONLY BEEN ON A CAR FOR 10 MONTHS. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR 300,000 MILES WITHOUT THE CHROME CHIPPING!!!!!

Ford won't cover... asked dealer to look into it while the never ending strut issue was being addressed..never called back and now its 2K over warranty. Extended warranty doesn't cover either. Nice quality for a 40K car.

I just noticed that the chrome paint from my rear taillight trim is peeling off badly. I checked today with the Ford dearlership which services my car and even though I have Ford's ESP plan, it is not covered unless under 36,000 miles. I'm upset that a car that is not even 2 years old has this unsightly look already!!
