All of a sudden car was completely dead. Opened the hood and removed the positive battery terminal cover to see if it had come loose. Incredible amount of corrosion! Lifted off the harness and all the metal had been eaten away. Now, without warning on a Sunday when no dealers are open, I have to have the car towed, stored in covered area because windows are down, and have to pay what I have heard will be around $400! How would I know if there is a potential issue if it is covered up by Ford with the terminal cover?!

Taurus SE 3.5L V6

As I was getting into my car today the power completely shut off. I popped my hood expecting a battery clamp had come loose, but when I lifted the positive terminal cover I was shocked to see an extreme amount of corrosion. It had bubbled up unlike anything I have ever seen, it filled the entire space of the terminal cover.

My husband brought me some baking soda and was able to clean it up enough to see that the clamp had been partially eaten away and wasn't making contact, he could completely lift it off without unscrewing it. Instead of waiting the quoted hour for a tow, he was able to get it secured enough to start it so we decided to drive it a quarter of a mile to a AAA service center. At this point we could actually see the battery bubbling at the positive post. They were shocked that this hasn't been a recall and wouldn't let me drive it to the dealer or the 10 minutes to my house because of the fire risk, so we left it with them for transport to the dealer. Now we are waiting to see if it will be covered under warranty or not.

A quick internet search shows this is not an isolated incident. This has been a recurring issue with the 2013 Taurus and it seems that some dealerships are covering it, some aren't.
