CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2005 Honda Accord suffers from transmission failure. It's not a huge widesperad problem like in prior years, but definitely still something to consider.

The transmission begins slipping & eventually has to be replaced, typically soon after 90,000 miles & with a repair cost of over $2,000.

Transmission failure problems have been a huge problem for the Accord & several other Honda models all through the early 2000s model years. Honda eventually extended the transmission warranty to 93 months/109k miles for the 2000-2001 Accords as a class action lawsuit settlement, but owners of other Accord model years with transmission problems are out of luck.

The interior backlights would sporadically come on and go off. So, this was/is rather alarming when it is pitch black and an unexpected thing changes within the cab of the car.

The 2005 stereo share the same problem but never have a recall as 2003. Contacted the Honda dealer and they won't help. After the backlight failure for several days, it won't turn off when I leave the car which drains the battery. Then the alternator also failed but I am not sure this triggers the alternator failure. Very disappointed with Honda.

Backlight on radio doesn't work. My car does not start after heavy rain, I believe its because of the electrical problems associated with the radio.

there are no any illuminating lights on for our radio and A/C back lights when we turned on the head light, we first thought it just likes what Honda made it and it could be changed to illuminate if customer want to by re-setting up some buttons. Even it is not very convenient for any driver but it was not annoying us at that time since we rarely drove our car during the darkness, we had not paid too much attention for that. However, recently we drove it frequently at night, this totally blank setting begin to annoy us a lot. We started to study why our Honda Accord has this inconvenient setting. After our research, we realize that it is not normal, we should have radio and A/C back light on whenever we turn on the head light, and seems like it was reported same issue for 2003 and 2004 Honda Accord, and Honda offer 7 years or 100,000 miles extend warranty. We are not sure how many this cases for 2005 Honda Accord. To be honest, it is really a big flaw related our safety, but we did not know that at all when we bought it. Let me make it clear: Our car is 2005 Accord LX has 53,000 miles on it, has been 8 years since we bought it. When head light is on, its radio and A/C back light is DARK not DIM.

Honda will not fix a default in the circuit board for their radios!! Us consumers should not have to pay for it. I am livid!! It costs over 1300.00 to fix it!! American Honda said my Honda was not part of recall so they would not help me! Well, this problem is not the consumers normal wear and tear, it is a default of this company! They should stand behind it...my third and last Honda for sure...It's the principle.

radio backlight doesn't work

I checked and there is a recall on this radio for the back light problem on most of the 2003-2004 Honda accord. However, there isn't a recall on the 2005 model, and I checked, my radio is the identical one with the 2003, and 2004. I called Honda of America, spoke to a lady and she refused to help back in July 2011. Today, November 2011, I called and Robert from Honda did give me a case number and asked me to bring the car in for the dealer to check it out. I hope my issue is resolved because I know Honda is a great car but an issue like this is not acceptable.
