CR-V EX V4

The 2008 CRV EX has had scheduled routine maintenance approx. every 7,000 miles and it's in top shape. We are pretty happy with the reliability of the car and this is our third Honda. Before taking it on a trip to California, the car had been thoroughly checked up. On the road to Las Vegas, NV (from Colorado), the AC stopped working. The Honda dealer in Las Vegas diagnosed the AC and reported it was busted. Thru internet searches, I found many complaints about the AC system in the Honda CRV (thru 2013) and the Honda advisory and extended the warranty. Unfortunately our 2008 CRV is not eligible because the AC failed in 2015 and the mileage is over 100,000. So we had the AC fixed (replaced) in a private garage in San Diego.

The failure of the AC system (clutches and compressor) is suspected of overheating and there were many reported failures. Honda chose to offer extension of warranty, not recalls is totally inadequate because the AC system in their cars will most likely fail given the right climate.

CR-V EX-L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 15,000 miles

2008 Honda CR-V blows 90 degree hot air from lower vent while blowing 68 degree cold air from upper vents. Temperature was checked by dealer. Dealer said this was normal with all CR-Vs, but I never had a problem until last summer after warranty expired. Dealer says this is normal and no way to repair. I can't believe the Honda engineers would let a vehicle with this kind of fault be on the market, and I certainly don't trust the dealer. This is BS at it's fullest. Either the dealer don't know how to repair, or it's not allowing him a profit. Take your pick. I checked with another dealer, and they want $112.00 up front to check problem. I still have an extended warranty, but it must not pay as much as cash up front. I think Honda should be forced to correct problem or at least list the defect on cars to be sold. I don't have the funds for a law suit, but it's needed. Does any one else have a similar problem? I am also sending a report to the Florida consumer folks, but don't expect any results from them either. I'm really disappointed with Honda, and will never buy another, and will not recommend to any one.
