This is the second time this happens and I was told nothing was wrong, it really frighten me this time. Thought it was due to me hitting the accelerator instead of the brakes, but this time I know that the vehicle accelerated, if I had not slammed on my brakes, I would have hit several cars in the parking lot. Just want you to fix the problem and and don't want anyone to get hurt.

When parking on a friend's driveway there was first a loss of power then a sudden, terrifying surge forward. I hit a parked car and the garage door. Damage to my car is extensive.

Follow-up. After a week of having my CRV at the dealer, the problem was not able to be “reproduced.” Honda lied saying they had not received any similar reports. I was told by the dealer that I would receive a report of the findings, but Honda Corp. has refused to release a report stating it was “confidential.” Hmmmm …. I think they must have found something or else they would certainly give me a mechanical report for MY vehicle. Even when you get your vehicle smogged you received a report outlining all the systems and how they checked out. The bill for checking out my CRV was covered by the warranty.

Once I got the “death trap” out of the mechanic’s bay, I had them drive it out to the parking lot. I then traded it in on a Honda Accord. The kicker … since Honda said nothing was wrong with the vehicle, they had to give me the value of the CRV. Thank you! Way to stand by your product Honda Corp! I think the sales person thought I was nuts. LOL! When we started working the deal for the new car, he asked, “Oh, is the CRV just in for regular maintenance?” and I said “No, it accelerates to 60 MPH all by itself and then the brakes don’t work.” The sales guys then says “Ummm …. I have to check with my manager about this …. I will be right back ….” I then reminded him that the vehicle received a “clean bill” from Honda saying that nothing was wrong with it.

Honda took back my CRV and will probably certify it because it is still under warranty. God help the next owner. I have reported the VIN number to all appropriate agencies so if there’s an accident related to this problem and someone dies, THEN the CRVs can be recalled. Ridiculous. We are a Honda family. We have been buying form the same dealer for more than 25 years, we currently own three, and we have never had any problems. As much as I loved my CRV, I am very happy to be rid of it.

This is a follow-up to my post on Tuesday. I filed a complaint with Honda Corp. and they told me that they had not had any complaints about the CRV with regard to acceleration or braking issues. The dealer told me the same thing. I printed out all of the complaints on this site and gave them to the dealer. I told Honda Corp that a class action law suit could be headed their way if they do not issue a recall. I told the dealer that if they think the car is "fine" and there's no problem with it, then they can give me the Blue Book price on it and I will get a different car.

The dealer is now keeping my CRV until Friday and another area manager (or someone at Honda) is coming out to look at my car. I will not take this car back. Hmmmm ... will Honda actually certify this vehicle and try to resell it?

I was entering the freeway, it seemed as if my cruise control was on – my CRV kept picking up speed. I tapped the brakes and my brakes were not working, all the while my car is accelerating to 60 mph. The gas pedal and the brake were tight – neither pedal could be pushed down to the floor. Thank goodness I had another driver in my car who calmly helped me. I put the vehicle in neutral and my engine was loudly revving and then I used the emergency brake to stop off the side of the freeway. I have never been that scared in my life!

I had the vehicle towed to the dealer. I received a call from the dealer saying the floor mat was up under the pedals and that was the cause. I argued if THAT was the case -- if there was a floor mat UNDER my gas pedal, that would have slowed me down because I wouldn’t have been able to accelerate. I explained that the car was accelerating all by itself. Of course the dealer could not duplicate the problem. They are keeping the car an extra day and some district manager is coming out to look at it. As for me … I’m never getting in the CRV again.

We are a Honda family but I am really disappointed over how Honda has handled this and all the situations posted here. I guess a bunch of people have to die before they take this seriously. I couldn’t help but think what would have happened had I hit a pedestrian or t-boned another car. My car would have been inspected and NOTHING would have been found??? Really????? In the future when I hear of accidents where the driver claims they had uncontrollable acceleration and no brakes but their vehicle “checked out fine” – I will believe the driver!

I told the dealer my mat may have shifted due to the very rough stop with my emergency brake. I told them I have a teen driver and then asked the technician if they would put one of their family members in this car driving 60 mph. Of course – no response. I have been driving for 35 years and have never experienced anything like this. I’m bummed because I really loved this vehicle but I will not be driving it again.

CR-V EX V4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,500 miles

I have a 2010 Honda CRV-EX AWD. I purchased it used in January of 2012. Starting in January of 2014 I started experiencing unwanted acceleration while applying the brake to come to a stop. I wrote the first time off as maybe my foot being on both the brake and accelerator at the same time by mistake. The next time it happened I took a good look and saw that my foot was only on the brake. I had to throw the car into neutral to avoid hitting the car in front of me at the light. The engine revved up to about 5500 rpms before coming back to normal. I then put the car back into drive with no issues.

This has happened on 5 different occasions now and I am afraid to drive my own vehicle! I called the dealership and of coarse they stated that they had never heard of any problems like I'm having with other CR-Vs. Help. What can I do? Take it to the dealership and have it NOT happen so they can say there is nothing wrong? I have found a few blogs with other consumers having the same problems. How can we get it fixed before someone dies.

CR-V LX 2.4L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 33,100 miles

I may have jinxed this car, had oil change June 11 2013 at Gilman Honda San Antonio and I was braggin to the service writer about how reliable this car is and that I did not think that I would have any problems with it in the future, car was almost out of warranty at 30 months 33k so I had them check everything in case may need repairs, I was told all looked good.

June 15 2013 I backed up in my driveway, pressed the brakes and car started to rev up, I put it in park and revs stayed high, I took my foot off the brake to confirm that I was not touching the accelerator, looked to confirm floor mat not touching pedals, all clear. I turned off car, restarted and it worked fine.

Happened again the next day when I was in reverse and pressed the brakes, this time it stopped on it's own without having to turn off the car.

We will take this to dealer this week to try to have them fix it.

Update from Jul 13, 2013: update to complaint made on 6-17-13* I informed American Honda about the sudden acceleration problem, he said not covered by warranty because dealer could not recreate the issue. i informed him I would not trust my loved ones to this car, I asked if he would let his wife and family use this car, he said 'maybe'. (on what criteria would he decide THAT I wondered).

Long story short, Honda no help, the dealer, on the other hand, Gillman Honda of San Antonio was most helpful and stepped up by providing a very reasonable discount on a 2013 CRV and gave us the red carpet treatement. We traded in Little Greeny, sorry to see him go but had to do it.

Happened again the next day 6-16-13 when I was in reverse and pressed the brakes, this time it stopped on it's own without having to turn off the car.

We will take this to dealer this week to try to have them fix it. Also I had a new key made at the dealer and the car programmed to accept the new key, forgot to mention this in first incident.
