CarComplaints.com Notes: The 2014 Honda CR-V has a trend of engine hesitation when accelerating.

Honda has tried to fix this delayed acceleration with a software update, but many owners report it didn't fix the problem.

This defect trend is not quite bad enough yet for us to slap on the "Beware of the Clunker" seal. But it's a concern & definitely something to keep in mind for a test drive.

Glad to see this is a common problem. My Honda dealer insists it doesn't exist.

When we go to the mountains and the temperature drops below 35 degrees, the tailgate doesn't open, period.

My solution has been to put the rear seats down and just throw everything in the back via the rear doors. However, this excludes a 3rd and 4th passenger!

What a basic design flaw! And to think this car was put together in Ontario! You'd think some Canadians would notice it.

Has a solution come along yet? Replacement of the door lock mechanism seems to be a waste of time.

Pain in the rear, anger, high blood pressure, not to mention that your freezing, when your loading groceries, strollers, wheel chairs or any thing in your trunk and can not depend on it opening. I have taken my CRV back to the dealer where I bought it at McLarty Honda in Little Rock, AR. which by the way is 70 miles from where I live (2 trips) to be told "That they made an adjustment". Later I was told by my Honda dealer in town that the switch can not be adjusted, that the cold weather is the real reason it will not work and until it completely stops working Honda will not replace it. The only thing at this time is to replace the switch at my expense of over $200.00 and there is no guaranty that the problem will be solved. The service department man told me that he hears this complaint many times daily. I can only imagine how many owners out there that will not voice their opinion or does not know how to go about complaining to Honda about this. I really feel for the mothers with infants and those disabled people that own this vehicle and having this unresolved issue. I am a previous owner of a Honda Accord that was a very satisfied customer even though my Accord was recalled twice for faulty air bags. I responded to the recalls and was very satisfied with the service department. But for Honda to know there is a problem here and not to do anything about it because it hasn't a fire yet or been a safety issue is irresponsible in my book which is causing me to seriously question if I will ever purchase another Honda and if I should start looking to trade my CRV off.

I am very disappointed in Honda Corporation and McLarty Honda dealership in Little Rock for the inconvenience that has been caused to owners of this vehicle. What ever happened to standing behind a product you have made.

hatch trunk does not open in cold weather

2014 Honda CRV does not have in interior release button to open the trunk from the driver's seat (aside from the child safety release all the way in the back of the car near the trunk). when the hatch sticks in winter months, i have to climb into the hatch and release it. VERY ANNOYING.

l wish there was a key to open the rear hatch on this vehicle since with the latch not activating in the cold I am not able to open it. This has happened repeatedly since October 2016 and where I live it is not even very cold yet. If I hold my hand on the latch for a bit, it will sometimes open. I bought it in March 2016, and it was not a problem until it got cold outside (right about freezing temps).

I plan to take it to my local Honda dealer with my next oil change to see if they can fix it.

Update from Jan 1, 2017: I took this to my local Honda dealer and the latch mechanism was replaced as it was cracked. It worked better so that I could open it at colder temperatures, but when it went very cold it would not open again. This is frustrating. I will take it back again when it is -20 Celsius as that is when it is not working again. The dealer knows this is still not fixed and told me to bring it in again. Just time consuming and very poor design that there isn't a release inside or a key to open it from the back.

So my brand new 2014 Honda CR-V which I bought for my wife since we were having a baby last year, has been great, but the tail gate won't open when it gets cold outside. Since you can't open the tail gate from the inside of the car, I was not able to use my trunk for about a week until I got an appointment. I took the car in and they adjusted the latch and it started working again.

The problem appeared again two weeks later and I took the car in but they could not find any problem with the latch. It's really frustrating since we have a baby stroller in the trunk and my wife has had to climb inside the trunk from the inside of the car to retrieve the stroller on several occasions. I have thought about trading this car in on several occasions but my wife still loves the car.
