After purchasing my 2015 Honda CRV from the Honda dealership with about 30,000 kms on it and doing all the required maintenance, my transmission has failed and requires a full replacement at 65,000 kms. Honda is quoting me $8000 for the transmission and $2200 in labour, plus tax. And we have been waiting three weeks now for them to decide if they will pay for the repair. I have never felt so screwed over in my life. Makes me sick.

Update from Jan 18, 2023: update: Honda replaced the transmission for me and footed the bill. Very happy they took care of this, but still shocked the transmission went with such low km.

CR-V EX 4CYL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

2015 Honda CR-V started with CEL codes, took it to the local Honda dealer, after every test was run and complete, it was suggested that we have the transmission replaced with a new or used one. The warranty covered replacement of a used transmission, but I would have to cover the difference for a brand new transmission. So after only 70k we will have to get a used transmission. We thought Honda was better than this, but thankful for extended warranties.

We decided to lease our Honda CRV in October because we wanted a reliable vehicle, and we heard good things about it... It seemed to work fine, I even made a trip home 430 km and back... Got my first oil change about a month ago... everything seemed fine...

I decided to take my kids to see my family out of town again and we make the drive 430 km.... Just as we are about 10 minutes from our destination, on the highway still, the drive light starts to flash... and I'm thinking that can't be good... I notice it it's not gearing up or something ... so I pull over, turn the car off, turn it back on and the damn thing wont go anywhere... I'm on a small hill I guess, cause it's rolling backwards...

WOW! So I got 2 kids on the side of the highway... stranded 10 minutes from my destination ... 430 km away from home... waited an hour for Honda to send someone to take my car to the nearest dealership....

My sister picked me up thankfully... but it's Friday... so we're driving all over the city in my sister's car looking to a rental and there is nothing available anywhere... Saturday... Honda tells my husband I am stuck here until at least Monday... Oh no problem Honda... I don't have a life, or a job, I'll just wait... NOT! I found a rental At the Airport Sunday and made the trip home.

I am now 430 km away from my vehicle... I am still driving a rental... its Wednesday... and the big question now is do I have to make another trip 430 km and back to pick up the piece of crap... ugh.... maybe you should keep it and we can go next door to Ford and lease a vehicle from them...

CR-V AWD EX 2.4L

  • CVT transmission
  • 4,200 miles

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Vehicle started acting "jerky" (not vibrations) between 50 and 65 mph. RPM increased around 700 RPMs each time it happened. Then started surging to almost 4000 RPMs at 60 mph on the level. Then Drive indicator light started flashing. At a stoplight it made some shuddering noises, and would not accelerate out of low range. Pulled into a parking lot and had it hauled 60 miles to the dealership where a transmission failure was diagnosed, and it had to be replace. This was at 4200 miles. Specifically bought a CR-V for reliability and good mileage. Disappointed in both.

CR-V ES 4

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,000 miles

Transmission trouble since we bought the CRV, had it in a couple different times for a week at the dealership, seemed better for awhile but now with 15000 miles on it almost didn't make it to the dealership. Now Honda is going to put a new transmission in it. Hope this takes care of it, I told the dealership l didn't want it back until it's fixed!

CR-V EXL 2.4L

This Honda CRV left me stranded on the side of the road, complete transmission failure!!! Good thing I wasn't on a major highway, I could have been killed. That's it for me with respect to Honda, I have zero faith in this car company I'm going to sell this piece of sh!t and try a Toyota!

Update from Jun 10, 2015: Sold this lemon for a Toyota RAV4, my fingers are crossed for a better experience.
