Buying the car from Carmax, 5 year term, 2 1/2 years left, not under warranty. There are numerous issues with this car.

Civic EX 1.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 48,544 miles

Brakes had to be replaced WAY too early!!! I'm definitely not hard on my brakes, and generally use the transmission to help slow the car down. The brakes on my husband's 2003 Civic far outlasted the ones on my 2006 and he's harder on his brakes.

Civic LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 8,000 miles

There is no reason why that brake pads should wear out every 8000 miles as is the case on my daughters 2007 Honda Civic LX. The rotors and calipers are undersized for this car, Honda knows that this a piss poor design and should recall the Civics to retrofit them with a larger sized front braking system. My neighbor has a Toyota Tundra and Toyota recalled them to retrofit them with larger sized calipers, rotors and pads. The current front brake system is inadequate and too undersized on the Civics. That is why the damn rotors get warped and the pads are shot every 8 to 10,000 miles. Honda of North America needs to address this brake issue and recall these Civics.

Civic LX 1.8L

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

I purchased my Civic new in 2006 and have just reached 35,000 miles on Sept 7, 2010. I'm on my fourth set of front brakes and my last set only laste 9,000 miles. The dealer replace them at 13,000, 24,000 and 33,000 miles. The dealer keeps saying they have tested everything and that it's my driving envrironment but my last car (a Toyota) didn't have the problem and I live in the same place and drive the same route to work every day. I replaced my brakes at 28,000 miles on my Toyota so why the difference? The dealer has made it clear that he will no longer reduce my cost for replacing the brakes and I'm on my own. Honda America blew me off and said it was my driving. Hard to believe since I'm almost 50 and not 16 years of age and my previous cars never had this issue.

Civic

  • Automatic transmission
  • 85,000 miles

My 2006 Honda Civic has approximately 85,000 miles on it. I was just advised today by my mechanic that my front brakes need replacing AGAIN. These brakes always wear unevenly, and it is always worse on the driver's side.

This happens approximately every 20,000 miles. The first time it happened, my mechanic told me take it to the Honda dealership because he was certain that it would be covered under warranty. To his amazement, they refused to cover it.

Customer Care was completely unhelpful. They would have given me an adjustment -- not because they admitted any responsibility, but because my husband I both own Hondas -- however, since I told them that I was angry enough to file a consumer complaint with my state, they declined to give any adjustment (because they determined they it wouldn't make me "happy").

My mechanic has fixed the brakes twice, and two separate Honda dealerships have fixed them twice. I have never, ever had a similar experience with any other car.

I am also very disappointed in Honda. I have replaced my brakes more times than I care to mention and they offer have offered me the same lame excuses (riding breaks, city driving, etc). Mostly I am highway driving so I am definitely NOT riding the breaks. I was hoping to drive this car into the ground and that day seems to be coming a lot sooner than I had planned. Going back to Toyota.

Civic LX 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

Now at a little over 90K and on the 5th set of front brakes.

First time, I had them changed by dealer...under warranty....after instructions by dealer on how I should be braking!

Then twice by my regular mechanic....and now by Midas. Hope they last longer. Back brakes ok.

My last Civic (CX, 98) first needed new front brakes at 60K!

Apart from that, love the car!

Civic LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 23,500 miles

Just like everyone else I can't believe that this is my second set of brakes for a car with 23,500 miles. The first set I replaced at 10,500 miles so my dealer said that this time I got 13,000 miles on the brakes and that this is a really big improvement. He did indicate that the brakes on Civics and Fit models of Honda do tend to wear on the low end??

Judging from the blogs I have seen this is a pretty steady complaint, but the talk to you like 10,000 miles on a set of brakes is totally normal. Such a huge disappointment in Honda. My first Honda and my last.

Civic LX

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,000 miles

I feel slightly validated after reading the other complaints about the premature wear of the brakes on the Honda Civic 2006. I replaced my breaks at 13,000 miles and just had to do it again at 25,000 miles. It's ridiculous. I do very little stop and go driving. I NEVER had this problem in all the years I have been driving Hondas (or any other car for that matter). I'm really peeved to put it mildly and my mechanic said Honda will most likely ignore my complaints because brake use is so subjective. I'm about ready to sell the car and buy a Toyota Corolla.

have never heard of a car wearing out it's brakes that early. I am very soft on the brakes and do not believe that this is my fault, plus having viewed that others are having the same problem I tend to think that Honda has a problem, will be seeing my dealership about yet another problem with this car. stay tuned!!!

Dec 282006

Civic LX 3.2L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,000 miles

The first instance of this happened back in December of last year, it was hell trying to get Honda to pay for them. They finally paid 90% this was after the service manager pointing fingers at me. Although someone at the dealership did say they had seen other Civics with the same problem. I had to bitch at them to let me use a rental car as well. I shouldn't of had to replace my brakes at 13,000 miles. Now a month ago I noticed my brakes going out again, I have 28,000 miles on my car. Come to find out the rear brakes needed adjusting and the brakes weren't wearing properly. They are totally uneven which they shouldn't be. I called Honda Corp on Monday and they aren't doing anything really..

Civic

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,000 miles

I am not to happy about my new car, being a single mom with two children, I thought that owning a Honda Civic would safe me money.I am having to replace the brakes on my car every 10000-12000 miles and the Honda Corp only paid for me once to have them replaced. My car has now 45000 miles and I have to have the brakes replaced again, this is now the 5th time since I have purchased this car. The dealer's excuse has always been I ride the brakes to much, I feel helpless. In my 22 years of driving a car I have never had this problem before. Is there any Justice anymore?

Civic

  • Automatic transmission
  • 14,300 miles

I have driven a Honda Civic for the past 10 years. Last year I traded in my old Civic for the new 2006. I replaced my brake pads once on my old civic. I took the 2006 car in for grinding sound and squealing at 14,300 miles. I was told that the pads were worn down and needed replacing. The dealer said that the pads are covered for 12 months from purchase and I had been driving for 18 months, but they would cover it anyway. I had actually taken the car in 6 months after driving it with odd groaning sounds from the front end while braking. The dealer checked it out and said it was just tire roar. This time I was told that I must be hard on my brakes. I haven't changed my driving pattern in 10 years and all of a sudden I am hard on my brakes? The only thing that changed was that I got a new car last year. I asked if it was the calipers sticking - they said no. I asked if the rear brakes were not doing their job, putting more stress on the front - they said no. They also said that they have not had anyone else in with these problems. They were nice though and said that it did seem odd and that if they begin to wear prematurely again to stop by and they will see what is going on and help me out the best that they could. I did end up doing the 15,000 mile service a bit earlier than I needed to, which cost $200, but I knew that was coming.

Had my car checked out by another dealer. The other dealer implied that I had about 5,000 miles left on my brakes. Again brakes needing to be replaced in 12,000 miles. I asked another Civic owner and he also indicated that he has replaced his brakes twice in one year.
