A known problem. 2009 Honda Civic, Pearl Black paint. The clear coat/paint is fading away to a whitish color and spreading more every month. I initially tried patching it with touch-up paint, but it's spread to the point that it needs a massive re-paint of both the back trunk and the back of the roof.

paint peeling

My car has been peeling paint on the roof, side and trunk. Honda keeps saying that there is not a recall. That is ridiculous! The paint should not look like that for a 2009 Honda Civic with less than 100,000 miles. Please help me fix it!

The roof and trunk areas are where the peeling is the worst on our 2009 Honda Civic. Upon obtaining an estimate for repainting, the body shop said that although the roof and trunk are where the paint peeling is the worst, there are signs of the problem occurring on the rest of the car. We were also informed that the problem was with the paint Honda used on the car when it was manufactured. The estimate for repair is $4,900.

We were never notified by Honda of any paint issues. After doing some research, we have found that Honda had extended the warranty for this paint issue. However, again, we were not notified and were therefore unaware that Honda had acknowledged the issue.

In contacting Honda, we were told that we were too late to get any help with the substandard paint that was used on our car. The representative said he understood our issue as a consumer, but Honda wouldn't help us because we hadn't contacted them earlier.

Took car to the Honda Dealer. They took pictures but said it was not covered. Talked to the Service Manager who said he would talk to the Honda Rep and would call me back with an update. Never heard another word. No one in this family will ever buy another Honda. When people ask about the car I gladly tell them this is what happens when you buy a Honda and they wont even take responsibility for it,

My car is always in a garage and after looking around parking lots and seeing other Honda's doing the same thing, I realized it's not just my problem. - It's HONDA'S problem and to have SO many years doing the same thing, they should have fixed this the first year. Luckily I found this site by just searching to see if there was a lawsuit (there should be ) on Honda for this. I need my car repainted. I feel like I paid good money for my car to look like a piece of crap.

I'm really disappointed with Honda on this one. I never realized how many Hondas had this paint peeling issue until it started happening to me. That's when I started looking for the issue more and more on the highway, and to my surprise, A LOT of Hondas are encountering the same issue. It makes my investment look undervalued, and makes me feel that I won't purchase another Honda again, although I love the vehicle, its the paint issue that will keep me from repeat business with Honda. FIX THIS ISSUE HONDA!

Love my car but cannot see the paint coming off from its body like a spreading disease. First noticed by my car washer during detailing in 2014 May, which started from the rear side end the roof, and spread over entire roof by 2016 Feb, and without any time I noticed over the sides of car hood.

With some research I found Honda had extended warranty to seven years but I did not receive any such information even though they have owners information, which is evident as I did receive a recall notice on air-bag recently. Called up the customer care number today and they declined any coverage saying it is out of warranty now. But the problem is identified as same and it did happen during the warranty period. Very annoying to see how can such a world class company ignore its customers.

I TOOK TO HONDA THEY TOOK THE PICTURES AND THEN THEY SAID IT COST 1800 DOLLAR TO FIX AND THEN THEY CALL BACK. WE GIVE YOU CREDIT OF 900 DOLLARS AND REMAINING I HAVE TO PAY. BUT THIS PAINT WAS ON RECALL FROM 2013 AND THEY NEVER SEND ANY LETTER TO ANY BODY. NOW THE PAINT ON THE CAR LOOK SO BAD. CAR LOOKS DISGUSTING. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.

The paint on the roof of my car has started to get round fade marks and now the paint holes are growing bigger. It looks like someone sandblasted my roof. I take very good care of my vehicle and I've had cars much older look like its had better paint.

The clear coat is peeling off. The car looks like a junker. There are a lot of complaints about this problem, but Honda denies responsibility. The dealer told me that it was a result of washing too often! Riddiculous. The second issue is Honda'S failure to replace the recalled airbag. Over 6 months ago they advised me not to carry anyone in the front passenger seat. They said that the dealer would contact me, but they never have. When I called, they said they don't have the parts. So, Honda leaves me with an unsightly unsafe car indefinitely, and this is our only car.

The car started cracking and peeling off, and the problem is that every day gets worse. I can see that on the roof is starting to form a rusty hole. It is very disappointing to pay so much money for a car that deteriorated so quickly. I would like to be heard and someone find a solution to my problem. This is my third Honda car and definitely the last one.

I bought it brand new in 09 - Black Pearl Honda Civic. Clear coat coming off all over my car. Took great care and now it looks like crap!

Went to the dealership I purchased from - they took photos and sent them to Honda.

It took 4 months only to be told by Honda Canada that I have no warranty left. That it was the first he heard of this issue - BS! Said can't do anything for me. He tells me that what is in the US has nothing to do with Honda Canada when I explained there are class action suits in the US.

Told me he would past it on for further review - When I asked him how long till I hear back he would not commit to a date. I may as well forget hoping for any type of customer care. I will NEVER EVER buy another Honda. SHAME ON HONDA CANADA - I paid top dollar got the extended warranty and took great care. For what - I could never sell it this way it looks like CRAP and old beater!

So disappointed - WISH there was a CLASS ACTION suite I could be a part of. They should be repainting ever one that has this issue and not even mention the word warranty.

People in the US have banners on their Civics - BUYER BEWARE - GOOGLE CIVIC PAINT ISSUES!

Yeah, just another 2009 8thgen Civic losing its infamous Nighthawk Pearl Black factory paint. The paint is deteriorating off the roof of my Si coupe. It can even be gradually scratched off with fingernails. It is also slowly starting to fade at small, thin edges of the car (metal surfaces). Two Honda dealers that I requested a recall repaint had refused to perform the job citing that Honda does NOT cover the 2009 Si coupe or at least my car's VIN.

Brought the Car in 2009 brand new off the showroom floor, only drive 15 mins to work park in garage, paint peeling on roof, took it back to Honda Dealer, who tells me car looks like it was repainted looking at me with suspicious enquiry. . No other part of the car peeling except the roof.. This is my second Honda, use to have a 1996 (Black) never had this problem. Now I have a blue metallic color and no one has ever seen this happen before. The car is at the Honda Dealer now, I will upload a picture as soon as I pick up the car. My question is if the local Honda Dealer does not honor the recall, where do I go from here?

The paint on the vehicle has been chipping off throughout various sections of the car’s body, down to the undercoat. I purchased the vehicle new, and it has never been in any accidents, or been repainted for any reasons. The problem started occurring approximately two years ago. I approached Honda regarding the issue, but was told that this issue is not considered under the company’s recall policy. Honda vehicles are well known for problems regarding paint, and Honda and several Honda owners are fully aware of such problems. I am looking for assistance to address and resolve this issue. Please help us consumers preserve our rights and get the protection we need against corporations, such as Honda, that profit from us and don’t adequately stand by us by honoring the quality of their products and services.

My car is only a 2009 so Honda don't tell me it's normal wear and tear!! You guys should be paying for this because the paint you guys painted my car with sucks!!! It's your fault you decided to go cheap not mine. I have friends who have older cars and their paint is perfect (none of them Hondas) I am young and definitely don't have money for a new paint job when I'm paying for school. I love the way my car runs I just wish it didn't look so ugly.
