Similar to the complaint from Marybga, Decatur, GA, the picture on the rear view camera of my 2014 Honda Civic LX is very, very dark. Especially in the bright sunlight. It's totally useless as a backup camera in the daytime. It's barely acceptable in the shade (like in a parking garage) or at dawn/dusk. My wife has a 2013 CRV with a good camera and she said the same thing. The Civic LX camera is very dark. Had the dealership service department check it out and they said the same thing, So did the salesman (after he sold me the car). But they both said when they compared it to other vehicles (same model) that's just the way it is. Within specs. I called American Honda and the regional customer service rep said basically the same thing. They ain't gonna fix it 'because it's not broke.
Well to me there is obviously a problem with the camera compared to the 2013 CRV or to any other car with a decent camera. This is definitely not a decent camera. And very disappointing in the un-Honda like response that "that's just the way it is." Doesn't speak much for their reputation for excellence in car design and continual improvement.
So buyer beware. There is much to like about the current generation of Honda Civics. But, the rear view camera is not one of them. If a rear view camera is an important safety feature that weighs heavily into your decision to purchase, then I would definitely look elsewhere.
