There was an extended warranty issued for make/model/paint color of our Honda Odyssey for paint peeling, but at the time of the warranty it wasn't happening. Now it is, and I'm talking the entire roof of our van and patches as big as your hand are peeling on the body. Our van has been garage kept, waxed and taken care of.

I called our Honda dealership where van was purchased to report the problem is getting severe and they said there isn't a Honda rep in our area to take a look at it. The service manager said that one was being trained to cover dealerships in our area, but isn't on the job yet. Nice. He took my # and said they would call in a month or so when one becomes available, but even then, he isn't sure that they can do anything for us. A 2005 van should not look like this.

We own an 01 Civic and then purchased an 05 Odyssey because we really liked HONDA cars and believed they had good products and that they would treat customers right. Thought we'd be customers for life. Honda lost our loyalty when the paint began peeling on the roof and we learned of the recall and that the primer was the issue and the cost to fix it would be quite high. We had other expected maintenance that we were okay with - but we were not willing to pay thousands to paint the car.

We contacted Honda and they were unwilling to work with us. It is quite disappointing that they have so little concern for keeping their customers. We are another family who has moved on from Honda (almost). The Civic has a few more years and then we'll leave Honda for good. I realize we have potential issues with any brand of car we purchase - but hopefully the company will choose to work with the customers to resolve the issues. Hopefully the company will care more about holding loyal customers.

Paint is peeling on the roof of my van. Unfortunately I didn't notice when it started because of the location of the peeling paint. When we went on vacation in January we noticed it because our hotel room window overlooked the van. When we got back into town in Feb. we took it to the Honda dealer we purchased it from in 2005. We were told there is nothing they can do and there is not a recall on this van.

When looked on line I did see several issues with the Midnight blue paint. Today I noticed the Hood is starting to peel and bubble. I will be calling the Honda complaint line in the morning.

Update from Jul 19, 2014: Talked to Honda on Friday july 18 , They wont honor the warranty on my van . The warranty ran out 2 years ago . They said its up to me to fix . I do plan on calling them again

I understand that this is a common problem for this paint color and that there was an extended warranty offered for it. Alas, no notice is given of problems that do not affect safe operation. The problem started small and has gotten much worse. We now look like we are driving a junker and I am embarrassed by it. By the time we reported it to our dealer, we were told that there is no recourse. Body work is very expensive and this is not a cost I relish taking on.

I'm frankly mystified that Honda just does not agree to fix it when they would surely secure a customer for life if they honored their commitment to deliver an above-average vehicle. As it is, I'm thinking Toyota Sienna just because I'm irritated.

As you can see from the photo the paint is peeling on the roof of my mini van. It started when I was simply using the hose to wet the van. If I squirt it anymore it will peel even more. You can see in the photo that it is peeling and is spreading. This is not the result of using the wrong detergent or parking in the sun or not waxing properly. These are some excuse tactics dealers may use to explain the problem rather than to admit the real cause. This is premature failure of the paint due to a poor factory paint job. I will be hopeful that Honda will take care of this in a fair and honest way.

Apparently peeling paint on these blue models have been a pretty big problem, as evidenced by the many reports I've seen online about this problem. Apparently Honda used an inferior primer, leading directly to this peeling paint problem. There was an extension on the paint warranty to 7 years, but I didn't receive notice of such extension. Doesn't really matter anyway, since at first (last year), I noticed the paint chipping around the door edges and gas tank compartment edges. No biggie, I thought to myself...little did I know that this was a symptom of a much bigger problem. A couple of weeks ago, I realized there's a big area on my roof where the paint is peeling off. Now, of course, the extended warranty is over (my car is now 8 years old), and I'm left to decide what I can do next. I 'm trying to scrape up enough money to just replace a non-functional stove, so I certainly don't have $2000 or so to plunk down for a paint job. I'm still making payments on this van, with several thousand dollars left to go, ughhh... Last car I owned was a 1995 Honda Odyssey, and I kept it happily for over 12 years, no peeling paint whatsoever. I bought this one because I believed Honda made a quality product, superior to other makers. I won't make that mistake again. No more Honda loyalty for me, and I will be sure to share my current experience regarding Honda with everyone who will listen, including my 3 teenage daughters. I can't believe I'm stuck with a significant problem that Honda is absolutely responsible for, and will no longer take responsibility for. Shame on Honda...

Spring of 2012 I noticed paint flaking off on a horizontal surface of the driver side sliding door of my wife's 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring edition. I told my wife to pick up touch-up paint next time she had it surfaced, we always take it to the Honda dealer we purchased it from for service. I touched it up and didn't think anything else of it. While washing today, I noticed a spot on the roof flaking off. Upon closer inspection, I noticed there was more than one spot, and larger than I first realized. I touched up the spots with the touch-up paint, came inside and started searching the internet.

Apparently there was an extended warranty for paint sent out in 2008? Going through our file, we don't have such a notification, we do keep all warranty and recall notifications (the folder for this van is about 1-1/2 inches thick). From what I read online about that 2008 warranty extension, it doesn't go far enough anyway.

The van is well maintained (our Honda dealer has all of the maintenance records, it can be verified), always garaged while at home. It does get waxed in an attempt to keep the paint looking good, the plan when we purchased it new was to keep this vehicle several years after paying it off. Despite my best efforts at keeping the paint looking nice, a poor quality paint job on a vehicle that nobody would consider inexpensive is making it more challenging than it should be.

When we purchased the vehicle new in September of 2004, we also purchased the 7-year/100,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, but of course, I didn't notice any problems until after the 7 years expired, even though we're still under 100,000 miles.

As a reference, I have a 2004 Jeep Wrangler that I take off-road, has scratches as evidence of being off-road, and with remnants of a kitchen remodel and all of the kids' stuff occupying the other side of the garage, the Jeep never has the privilege of parking in the garage, yet it has no paint flaking off. This is the first Honda I've ever owned (supposed to be a vehicle of quality?), none of the Fords, Jeeps or Toyotas I've owned ever experienced this problem, and two of the Fords, a Bronco and an Explorer, each had over 220,000 miles on them when I sold them. Sure, they were both showing signs of the typical rust areas, but the paint wasn't flaking off. The last Mustang I owned was 15 years old with 135,000 miles on it when I sold it, and again, no paint was flaking off.

If Honda can't stand behind the paint on a $40,000, eight year old vehicle with 90,000 miles on it, and do what's right, I won't have the confidence to own another Honda when it's time to trade this one in.

I am really tired of the problems that Honda knows about happening just out of the warranty period. This is the third problem for me and I believe they were preventable.

I'm not sure where this will go when I contact them about the paint problem but I have my suspicions. The car is only 7 years old and I've had the steering pump replaced just before loss of warranty at 36000. I told them I was having a power door opening problem at the time of the pump change, they were supposed to check it and yet the cord in the door broke 5000 miles after. The same loud annoying noise the first pump was making started again 6 months into the new pump with no warranty coverage. I listen to this constantly when I am driving. The door still does not work to this day and now the paint problem which they claimed to have extended the warranty on but I never received notice of it prior to have the problem. Nice. Very Upsetting. These cars are not inexpensive and I have done everything I can to keep up on the required maintenance only to have the non-regular maintenance the problems. Thank You
